MACFIE MITCHELL LOCAL PARAGRAPHS. In another column of this issue those who are interested in the schools of the county may see the names of schools which have teachers secured for next session. Since the clearing away of tree branches on the court house lawn one may have from the public square an excellen jview of North Brevard and the mountains beyond. "The Mstery of Souls," a three reel special feature film, will he shown at the Auditorium Friday night. This is a strong love story, showing a daring rescue of a drowning girl while under water.

Owing to the continuance of the rainy weather, the unveiling of the monument to L. N. Townsend at Oak Grove by the Woodmen of the World, announced for next Sunday, has been postponed indefinitely. Rev. W.

E. Mcllwaine was called last Tuesday to Gastonia to perform the funeral ceremonies of an aged minister, Rev. John Kennedy. Dr. Mcllwaine left with the expectation of returning to Brevard this week.

At a meeting of Brevard Lodge No. 221, K. of Tuesday night, F. E. Shuford and V.W.Osborne were introduceed into tie mysteries of the rank of Page.

There will be work in the second rank next Tuesday, and all members are urged to be present. There will be a special meeting of Transylvania Council No. 376, Jr. O. U.

A. Saturday, July 20. There are several candidates to be initiated, and refreshments will be served. All members are urged to be present. Visiting Juniors are cordially invited to attend.

At J. R. Zachary's are the following summer viaitors, all from New Orleans: Mrs. M. H.

Scratchley, Misses Mary and Edna Scratchley, Miss Loretta Willams and Miss Carrie May Keith. This is Miss Keith's third summer visit to Brevard, and her friends here are much pleased at her return. yniMGnrmiii KILPATRICK SON Lon King, who has been at work in Maryland, came home for a visit this week. Miss Grace Whitmire returned Monday afternoon from a visit to relatives in South Carolina. The many friends of Miss Loree Galla" more will regret to learn that she has been quite ill for several days.

Mrs. J. W. Smith came home from Canton the first of the week, but returned to Canton ajew days afterward. Rev! J.

K. Henderson, who is at present visiting in this county, will preach at the Brevard Baptist church next Sunday. D. Harris of Asheville, father of the Greater Western North Carolina movement, was in Brevard Monday aud Tuesday of this week. On Friday of last week about six or eight teachers stood the examination on the reading course.

The results have not yet been announced. Mrs. E. L. Carrier and Mrs.

Cooke, went to Asheville on a shopping trip last week. A school, taught by Wesley Mc-Call, will begin on July 22, on Turkey Creek. Miss Emma Brown of Pelzer, S. is here on a visit to her mother, Mrs. J.

J. Miner. Mr. and Mrs. W.

S. Trice, and children of Calvert were visitors to Brevard last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Grady Kilpatrick returned recently from a visit of several weeks to Ocean View, Ya.

G. V. Brewington of Spartanburg was in town this week. Thurman Summey and wife of High I'oint are visiting relatives in Brevard this week. Miss Bessie Duckworth came up from Charlotte last week, and will stay in Brevard for a few weeks.

C. K. Stone of Spartanburg, S. spent several days with friends in Brevard last week, returning home Tuesday. Misses Nellie and Mabel Miller and Mrs.

O. V. Summey are visiting Mrs. A. J.

Mc-Devitt at Walnut, Madison count'. The next special feature film at the motion picture show will be given on Friday night. It is called "The Mysteries of Souls." Near the fountain on the court house lawn a new and important sign has been placed. It reads: "Five dollars fihe for throwing trash in the pool." Last Friday night quite number of young people from Brevard and environs enjoyed an evening at C. C.

Case's about two miles from town. Dancing was the principal pastime of the evening. A large crowd, mostly from Little River and Cedar Mountain, attended an all-day singing at Rocky Hill church last Sunday. Little River and Cedar Mountain choirs furnished the music of the day. Several people from Brevard were present.

The court house lawn has been greatly improved in appearance by the work done by Messrs. Thomas and Madler, of the Appalachian Club Estates. The lawn has been graded and grass seed sown. The little office building is now complete and makes a very attractive appearance among the trees. Preparatory to a vote on the compulsory education law there will be a meeting at the Selica school house next Saturday afternoon, July 20th.

Prof. A. C. Reynolds Asheville will address the people, speaking in favor of the application of the law. The election will be held on the following Tuesday, July 23rd.

J. Kelloway, of Wilmington, N. C. At the Presbyterian church last Sunday services were conducted by Rev. W.

E. Mcllwaine of Charlotte, who arrived in Brevard a few days previously. The congregation, composed of regular attendants and quite a number of visitors, was unusually large. Dr. Mcllwaine preached a strong and earnest sermon.

Services may be expected there both morning and evening for the remainder of the summer. The good old days of fox hunting seem about to be revived among the citizens of East Fork. J. McD. Cantrell, S.

H. and Joe Gillespie, Tom Jordan and others of that neighborhood caught two foxes last Saturday, making six captured in the last few days. Seven more remain, according to Joe Gillespie. There is music in the air of East Fork. The horn of the hunter is heard on the hill, and the bay of the pack resounds in the glen.
