Senator Simmons was the speaker for ttie 'occasion and the people went from all parts of the county to bear him. The speakei's stand was erected in the grove at the school house and there were accommodations for all. The crowd is variously estimated at from 3,500 to 5,000. It would be safe in saying that there were 4,000 people on the grounds. Asheboro prepared well for the occasion, the entire population turning out to meet their friends from the surrounding country.

There were many decorations, Old Glory being seen from every source, on wagons, houses everywhere. The young people took quite an interest in the celebration and gave it additional life. Senator Simmons spoke for two hours and it was one of his best. He reviewed the work of Democracy in the state, showing the wisdom of all its acts and pointing out the great benefit derived from the Amendment and Watts law especially. The Enterprise has been to all of the political meetings at Asheboro, similiar to tbis one, for 16 years, and we think that the crowd yesterday was larger 'than any since Vance spoke there twelve years ago.

We clip the following from Char lotte News of 26th: A young lady neat and well dressed and fairly good looking, was arrested here today by Officers Johnston and Christenbury, charg ed with shop-lifting or stealing from Charlotte stores yesterday and today. She is a lady of good name and good connections living in a North Carolina country town and the publicaticn of her name would cause a sensation through out the State but for many reasons it will not be given to the public and there will be no prosecutions if the thefts are made good.

The lady gives her name both as Miss Johnson and Miss Curlee of Ashe- ville. She is now at the police station When arrested the young lady had on her person a gold watch, two rings and several other articles. Some of the merchants say that if she is mentally alright that she should be prosecuted, that there has been so much stealing of this kind going on that it is necessary to take vigorous measures to put a stop to it. When asked by a News man this afternooD if she had ever been ac cused of being a kleptomaniac the young lady burst into tears and said no, that she could have re frained from taking the things if she had wanted to do so. She then asked the News to telegraph her father and this was done.
