Much of this can be attributed to the quality of knitted fabrics today and to their use in garments for infants and runabouts Too, many articles of apparei for these very young persons are given the durable press finish, which makes laundering a breeze. Practically all the knits in good grade garments are treated to retain their size and shape. Doting relatives who still insist on giving the new baby a christening robe complete with fine lace, tiny tucks and infinitesimal hand stitching may have to shop around a bit, When they find such a confection, it may have the ultra modern touch, a durable press finish.

The modern young mother finds today's first garments much more practical. These usually are in sizes up to six months, in a fine lightweight knit and in white and baby pastels, Dainty little applique trims (including also a tiny bow tie for 'he boy) are as machine washable as the knitted fabrics in the garments themselves. During the warm season of the year the young baby dresses mostly in shorts and diapers, plus dresses such as those just described. Shirts summer are usually sleeveless; for winter, they have sleeves or short sleeves. In good quality these are softly knitted of good, long staple cotton, treated to stabhze size and shape.

One great asset is that these garments are machine washable.
