S. C. Slaying Case Continues CONWAY, S. C. (R- Four men and a woman continued on trial at Conway today in the shooting death of a young North Carolinian whose body was found in his burned automobile.

Frank Tyler, 30, charged with murder, said in a statement read in court Thursday that the shooting was accidental. James Allen Miller, 23, of Wilmington, N. was the victim. The prosecution contends Miller was shot down November as he sat on a bridge rail, because it was thought he was a federal alcohol tax unit investigator. He was shot near his.

body was soakd with kerosene, and put in a car that was ignited. Two witnesses told the court Tyler thought Miller was an agent. He actually was a truck driver, believed to have been on a hunting trip in the area. Several officers said they were unable to find any motive for the slaying. A motel operator, Clyde Soles of near Loris, told the court Tyler said after the shooting that "what makes it so bad was I killed him with his own rifle." The four others in the case are charged with being accessories.

They are Tyler's brother Howard, 28; Mr. a and Mrs. Elwood Hewlett, each 38, and Sinkler, Carl Hewlett. 1,019 Kids Met Class Every Day Special To The News GAFFNEY, S. C.

The white enrollment increased by 27 and the Negroes by 38 over the previous school year. Average daily attendance was 5,591 for whites and 1,905 for Negroes, a total of 7,496 and an attendance percentage of 87, a two per cent drop from 1958-59.

U.S. Planes Bolster India NEW DELHI, India (P) American cargo planes bought by India have begun arriving to bolster India's military strength along the disputed northern border with Communist China. A defense ministry spokesman announced that delivery of the C119 flying boxcars began a few weeks ago. He declined to give the number purchased, but one report said 30. India is increasing her air force to drop supplies to troops in the roadless frontier regions they are disputing with Chinese Communist forces.

A defense spokesman declined comment on a report India had discussed purchase of air-toair missilese and other weapons from the United States. The New York Times said in a Washington dispatch that India has discussed with U. S. officials the possibility of obtaining Sidewinder air tro air missiles. These were used effectively by Chinese Nationalist airmen against Red China pilots two years ago.

Chileans Face Flood Threat SANTIAGO, Chile (P) While rest of southern Chile faced the heavy task of reconstruction from the recent earthquakes, the almost womanless city of Valdivia lived in terror today. It was feared dams holding back swollen Lake Rinihue might break any hour and engulf a large section of the city. For the past four days thousands of persons have left by ship, helicopter, train, truck and on foot. Most of the evacuees were women and children. The Interior Ministry estimated 000 persons had pulled out of the stricken city, which formerly had a population of 100,000.

The earthquakes which made a shambles of Valdivia in late May blocked normal outlets of the lake. Three landslides crashed into the valley below the lake and blocked the San Pedro River, the normal outlet, May 22. WEEKEND WEATHER LOOKS GOOD June handed the Carolinas another present today--the promise of good weather over the weekend. Rising from a low of 59 degrees this morning, the temperature is expected to hit 80 degrees this afternoon. A low of 58, a high of 83 is predicted tomorrow.

Skies should be from clear to partly cloudy today, tonight and tomorrow. SPEEDWAY Continued From 2nd Front still on the Speedway site to be parked across the track. Speedway president Curtis Turner, Smith and a group of their employes asked employes of Flowe to move the equipment at 8 o'clock last night. When Flowe's men refused Turner and Smith ordered their own men to move the equipment off the track. Smith said the Flowe employes indicated they might resist such action, which prompted the Speedway group to threaten use of a number of shotguns and pistols they were carrying.

"When we leveled the guns, they backed away," Smith said. The equipment was removed from the track and parked on adjacent Speedway property without further incident. A meeting at the Speedway was held this morning among Turner, Smith, Flowe and a Speedway attorney. Flowe reported that at this time he was promised some sort of payent by noon today, but said this afternoon he had not received it. D. Bullock of Columbia, S. C. frightened the burglar away when she entered her seventh floor room. Instead of carting off the Bullocks' clothing as he intended to police reported, the thief left his own coat behind while making a hasty exit through a window to a nearby building.

Morning and night meetings Saturday close out public appeals for votes by candidates running for Cherokee County offices in next Tuesday's Democratic primary. Candidates will speak at City Park Saturday at 10 a.m. and at Limestone Mills Saturday night at 7:30. The latter meeting was expected to attract several thousand persons, largest crowd of the campaign which opened at Blacksburg Monday. Other speakings of the week were Broad River Mills, Tuesday; Cherokee Falls, Wednesday; Cherokee Church, Thursday and Alma Mills club house, Friday.

Besides county candidates, Cherokee Democrats will ballot for a U. S. senator and a solicitor for the Seventh Judicial circuit which also includes Union and Spartanburg. Seven candidates are running for the county's two seats the House of Representatives in the General Assembly, four for county supervisor, four for two magistrates' offices west of Broad River, four for one magistrate's seat in Cherokee Township, three for Limestone Township commissioner and two for Cherokee Township commissioner. Cherokee Democratic Party Chairman R.

B. Hallman said the county registration board reported 11,855 men and women were enrolled to vote in 37 precincts. This is an increase of 602 over the 11,245 registered two years ago.
