26A SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 17, 2019 SUNDAY NEWS JOURNAL In Memoriam Barbara Lee Ohlson Tanner REHOBOTH BEACH Barbara died on November 10, 2019 after a sudden, brief illness. She was born in 1926 in Wilmington, DE. She attended Endicott College, where she studied art and drama. She was married to Tommy Tanner in 1949 at Grace Methodist Church in Wilmington, DE. Barbara lived a long and full life and was a multi-talented artist.

She excelled in many arts which included painting in many mediums; jewelry, silversmithing, and the very finest handwork, crewel embroidery, knitting and cross stitch crocheting. She made beautiful pottery as well. Her artistic abilities showed in her interior decorating and homemaking. Many happy years were spent at Charis Crafts, which was part of Grace Church, and is where she made life-long friends. After Tommy retired and they moved to Rehoboth permanently, she attended Bethel Methodist Church in Lewes.

Barbara Lee cherished and loved to spend time with her many good friends. She was involved with the Embroiderers Guild, the Silversmith Group, The Cape Artists, the Rehoboth Art League, The Delaware Watercolor Society and others. Barbara Lee was on the Board of Kentmere in Wilmington, DE. Barbara loved her dogs and always enjoyed them from childhood on. She also loved their horses, especially and and enjoyed spending time with them and spoiling them with treats at the farm whenever possible.

Barbara Lee also enjoyed watching golf on Sunday afternoons. She was predeceased in death by her husband of 50 years, Tommy Tanner, and her parents, Madeline and Paul Ohlson. She was a devoted wife and daughter. Barbara is survived by her niece Janet McNulty of Dover, grand- nieces Cayla and Alyssa McNulty, and longtime dear friends, Kevin and Jim Lamborn of Middletown and their daughters, Meg Massey (David); their children, Liliana and Lucas, and Leah Lamborn Everyone would agree that Barbara had a generous heart, was very kind and of good nature. She loved sharing her many gifts while being modest and self-depreciating.

She will be deeply missed. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

For online condolences visit: www.mccreryandharra.com Hamilton Taylor WILMINGTON Hamilton Taylor, 91, of Wilm- ington, DE, passed away Thursday, November 14, 2019, in his home of 53 years. Born in Chester, PA he was stationed in post-war Japan with the U.S. Army. He earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Drexel University and worked for Delmarva Power and Light for 38 years. Since 1958 he was a member of Trinity Pres- byterian Church where he worshipped regularly and contributed countless hours as an active volunteer.

He was a member of the Indian Guides, the Dela- ware RC Club and the American Model Association. He was a long-time sponsor of the Candlelight Music Theater in Arden and enjoyed the Rainbow Theater and the American Music Theater. An enthusiastic and ardent ballroom and country music dancer, he attended local dances every week throughout his life. Ham took pride in his gardening and his yard always displayed beautiful plants and flowers. Every summer friends and family eagerly anticipated his delicious tomatoes.

Radio controlled model airplane building was a lifelong passion. He was widely known as an expert builder and model designer with his remarkable attention to detail and meticulous craftsmanship. Helping family, friends and strangers, he lived a life of service and will be remembered dearly for his kindness and compassion. He always put others needs and desires ahead of his own. Hamilton was the epitome of a life well lived.

He will be deeply missed by everyone he knew. Ham is survived by his children Kenneth Taylor and his wife Jean of Northbridge, MA, Janis Phillips and husband Ed of Emerald Isle, NC, and Glenn Taylor and wife Chris of Newark, DE; grandchildren Wayne, Keith, Kimberly, Eric, Brenda, Kevin and Sharon; seven great grandchildren; sisters Elizabeth Taylor and Grace Rowe of PA, Letitia Hull of DE and Polly Don- nelly of SC; a nephew Alan Atkinson of FL and dear friend and companion Jean Slosky of PA. Memorial services will be held Friday, 22 November, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1120 Darley Rd, Wilmington, DE, 19810. For online condolences, please visit chandlerfuneralhome.com Anne Jessup Edgar Wells KENNETT SQUARE Nancy Wells, age 96, of Ken- nett Square died at Crosslands on October 22, 2019.

She was born in Wilmington, Delaware, where her father, John B. Jessup, was a noted banker and civic leader. Her mother, Marion Zinderstein Jessup, was a top-ranked tennis player who won a silver medal in the 1924 Olympic Games and was elected to the Delaware Sports Hall of Fame in its inaugural year of 1976. Her uncle, Philip C. Jessup, a legal scholar and a diplomat, served as U.

S. Representative to the United Nations and as a judge on the International Court of Justices in The Hague. Nancy graduated from Wilmington Friends School in 1941. There she fell in love with John Mendinhall, who shared her passion for horses, tennis, and flying. Mendinhall, a Marine Corps pilot, was killed in action in Okinawa in 1945; he was 24.

After attending Mills College for a year, Nancy earned her private license at the Embry Riddle School of Aviation and served in the U.S. Navy WAVES from 1944 to 1946. In 1948 she married James Milne, also a Navy veteran, but they were di- vorced a few years later. On her own with a young son, she worked at the Delaware Heart Association until retiring when she married W. Coleman Edgar in 1955.

During the 1960s, Nancy and Coleman and their children lived in San Francisco, The Hague, and Brussels, before returning to the Wilmington area, where they lived until death in 1988. Always active in community affairs, Nancy served as president of the Ju- nior League of Wilmington, chairman of the Wilmington Flower Market, chairman of the board of the Arthritis Foundation and a trustee of the Delaware Art Museum. She sat on the boards of the Wilmington World Af- fairs Council, the Grand Opera House, and the National Defense University Foundation in Washington, DC. She was a member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames. In 1990 she was appointed by President George H.

W. Bush to be a charter member of the Kennedy National Committee for the Performing Arts. She was married to A. Judson Wells, Jr. from 1994 until his death in 2008.

They enjoyed traveling the world together and spending time with their col- lective nine children and numerous grandchildren (preferably on a sailboat). She was an avid bridge player and a passionate devotee of Roger Federer. Nancy will be missed by her many friends and family members. She is survived by her children, Michael S. Edgar and Kate Edgar (their brother Sam Edgar died in 2010), her sons-in-law, Gary Vogt and Allen Furbeck, and her grandson Kai Furbeck, as well as her step-children: Anne Harms, Lucy Hausner, Harriet Shaw, David Wells, Jack Wells, and Jane Wells, and their families.

A memorial gathering will take place at Crosslands on Saturday, January 18 at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Conservation International.
