Those who love a crisis here and there with their sports news are no doubt taking pleasure in the unrest which has been preva lent in the Coast League in the first week of its 200-game sillython and which has finally come to some sort of a climax with the Hollywood Stars looking like a girls softball team.

Early in the week some of the club owners came out flat against the draft (again) and indicated that they might get tough about it. Forces in the Southland community are still plugging for a major league franchise (they always talk about the Browns). A story unfuils about a third major league illegal, if needs be which will cover half of the known world. And then the Hollywood Stars burst forth yesterday afternoon in outfits some Vogue editor must have dreamed up and which should lie put in the same bracket as those pink sport coats with yellow linen waistcoats and lavender flannels some screwbull Is always proposing for masculine wear. But give the Stars credit they wore those duds.

That took some guts. Pin-striped flannel shorts, white nyloq T-shirts and stockings rolled just below the knee will be the Hollywood mode of apparel for all day games. Its difficult to coordinate all of these things. But if we say symptoms Instead of things" it's an easier thing to deal with and we can brush the whole business off as symptomatic: like the great gin madness which cursed the slum dwellers of Elizabethan England, like the march of the lemmings to the sea, like the dance craze which had the village squares in untidy messes of swirling humanity in the middle ages. Symptomatic of what? you may well ask and I really couldnt blame you at all, The Idea of a third major outlaw, If necessary league Is an appealing one.

Cities In this state such as Los Angeles, San Francisco and Oakland could certainly support such a league and Los Angeles certainly deserves more than the present farm club deal It is getting now. But the Idea of having an outlaw league would probably have little- appeal to the young ball player considering a contract when he reflects on what happened to the Mexican League Jumpers awhile back. But a third major league this would embrace San Francisco, Oakland, Los Angeles, Hollywood, Dallas and Houston or the movement of an established team west would appear to be the only way. The Coast League as a whole would not go major league. It Is content with major league admissions.

HOW SILLY CAN WE GET MEMO It's alright to ape your elders when what they do Is marked with reason and the path on which they walk Is firm with Integrity. But when high school kids start using Western State Conference as a model It's time to give block lettem to champion kite fliers. My scouts tell me that before the Colt-Bullpup baseball game was played Friday, a Pasadena delegation cast doubts on the eligibility of two of Muir's ball players and made them stick and that the Colts, therefore, did the same for a pair of Bullpups. The kids affected had participated in Municipal Church League basketball after their baseball league season was underway, deeds which muke them ineligible under CIF law. Bob Brown, pitcher and Doug Werk, catcher, were the Muir boys benched and Ed Bartholomew and George Texter, both outfielders, were the Pasadena boys rendered ineligible.

It's all a strange brand of sportsmanship. I've heard that some of the equipment at Muir was on the creaky side, but had heard nothing about the pole vault standards being built for jumpers of a past centuiy. That is, until Ed Jacou-bowsky of Muir turned in hia report of the track meet Friday, (details of which can be found on another page). Muir Vaulter Dick Stivers wpn the event in 12 ft. 8 in.

and wanted to put Jhe bar up a few more pegs to try at 13 ft. 6 in. I dont know why he settled on that particular height, but what is Important to the story Is he manner in which the bar was put at 13 ft. 6 in. They put the standards up on benches, they did.

He missed the jump. 'But could the great Warmerdam have competed under such conditions? Get lie Harris, Compton boxing coach, was unhappy loudly so about the decision In the Rodriguez-Wooda final Friday night (his boy lost) and Intimated that the Judges had robbed his man. Woods won the first two of the three-rounder, but under college boxing rules the total points determine the winner. The judges were seated far apart, giving little chance for conversation on the scoring. The judges were respected coaches from Los Angeles high schools.

But in the triangular track meet at Compton Friday, all judges were from Compton. The head judge was Compton Track Coach Herschcl Smith, Some of our PCC boys thought there was a very bad decision in the 100-yard dash putting Chuck Miller third rather than second. George Phelps, coach of the CIF basketball champs of El Monte high, says his graduating quintet wanta to continue Its higher education as a "package." The kids are so anxious to stay together that theyre proposing to go to a junior college before entering a four-year school because two of their member haven't the grades as yet They want neither Muir nor PCC. Marshall also blazed past the 400-meter flags, three yards from the finish, in 4:29.5, bettering the record for that distance set last year by Hironoshin Furuhashl of Japan. In the 440, the powerful Marshall finished yards ahead of teammate Jimmy McLane, the defending champion and former meet record holder. Exhibition Results Washington Cincinnati 6. Chlraao Cuba 3. (International New Service) A multi-million dollar plan to Install a new and probably outlaw major baseball league in the mushrooming population centers of Texas and the Pacific Coast was reported yesterday.

Owners of existing organized teams in the affected areas are the most part in favor of the new plan if it can be worked. According to Information received by International News Service, a fabulous rash of movie and oil money, ready to go so far as to raid the major leagues for talent, is behind the Idea to form a league of at least six cities. The six are' San Francisco, Oakland, Los Angeles, Hollywood, Dallas and Houston. At least two of these franchises San Francisco and Oakland would, in terms of the existing blueprint, be the same organizations which now- do business as the San Francisco and Oakland teams of the Pacific Coast League. Whether the other four Los Angeles and Hollywood of the PCL and Dallas and Houston of the Class-A Texas League jump to the new circuit, or whether completely new franchises are to be built in those territories, is not yet known.

There has been talk of making the Pacific Coast league a third major league as It now stands, but the fact Is that most PCL directors do not want this to happen. They are content to pay smaller minor league salaries while drawing at the gate from an Increased populace. Involved In the Idea for a third major league is the construction of a new stadium in Los Angeles and a 'huge civic stadium in San Francisco. Seattle and strange as it sounds Baltimore have been discussed as possible points in case the league were to be an eight-team- circuit. The plan favors eight teams.

Men behind the scheme are confident that once the league launched, it will not be long before organized ball gives It official recognition. i Sacramento Noses Qyt Angels, 5 to 4, A.
