If you find Lady Without something of a run-of-the-MGMill as we did please remember that there were some mighty extenuating circumstances which hindered Producer Bam Marx's plans to bring you a rattling good melodrama about the insidious alien-smuggling racket The picture is currently at the Variety md Embassy theaters and you must know that Intentions were good when you see that Iledy Lamarr who held out and got a $130000 fee for her efforts shares the stellar spot with John Hodiak and that Lewis fresh off his successful Is the handled the direction It tells in far better fashion than did the somewhat similarly-plotted the story of an immigration agent who is sent to Havana to trap George Macready king of the ring and is eventually faced with the dilemma' of also arresting the girl with whom he has fallen in love Marx has made excellent use of authentic Cuban backgrounds and the fact that these sequences both romantic and comprise the better portions of the film indicate that had he been able to go through with his original plan to have the Florida locale set in a hotel he would have come up with a top-notch action film At the last moment Marx was unable to find the hotel he required and he had to switch the climactic scene to the Everglades with less than exciting results But as we said before the Havana sequences are authentic and if you been able to get to the Cuban capitol in person you can get a fairly good glimpse of it in Lady Without RtPMSI NOW!
