Blanchard Fye, Moshannon, recently began the second phase of six months military training under the Reserve Forces Act program at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md. Fye is receiving ordnance train- ng after having completed eight veeks of basic combat training at Fort Knox, Ky. The 21-year-old soldier was graduated from Snow Shoe High School in 1954 and was employed by Donahey and Com- any, Snow Shoe, before entering he Army. Coal carried by the Chesapeake Railway in 1956 was hauled an average distance of 291 miles. The road's 1956 coal tonnage was 65 per cent of its total freight and amounted to almost 84,500,000 tons.

The afternoon Detroit News ani Detroit Times quickly started pre paring Saturday editions. A dispute over refusal of mail ers to work beyond a 15-hou double-shift at the News last Sat urday resulted in picketing and re fusal by the Teamsters Union cross picket lines. After Sunday editions, which so carried the News masthead the Times and Free Press closec down, saying a strike against on member of the Detroit Newspa per Publishers Assn. was a strik against all three.

The Internation al Mailers Union, which claims to represent the News mailers termed the action a lockout. Today's settlement, announce' shortly after 7 a. follows James A. Hoffa's joining of nego tiations. Hoffa, Midwest Teamste boss, flew here from Washington where he had been a witness be fore the Senate Rackets Commit tee yesterday.

The publishers association and Mailers Local 40 of the Interna tional Typographical Union issucc a brief statement announcing pub llcation would be resumed today "The "publishers and ITU mail ers will meet at 2 p. m. to proc ess grievances according to thi contract. Publication of all thre papers will be resumed the statement said. The International Mailers Union said 87 mailers were fired by th News when they declined to con tinue overtime work.

The New said it fired 67 for refusing to con tinue overtime in an emergency caused by a mechanical break clown. The paper charged the mailers had created a manpowe. shortage to regularly require overtime work. The newspapers pointed ou their contract was with Mailer Local 40 of the ITU. President Calvert N. Ellis Juniata awarded six bachelor arts and 14 bachelor of science degrees at a dinner ceremony in the college dining hall.

There were five women among the 20.
