Andrews, assistant Democratic floor leader, has said House Republicans were responsible for rejection of a plan calling for the Legislature to take a 30-day re cess instead of final adjournment "The idea was that the House and Senate would recess from time to time and convene for bus iness at the call of the presiden protempore of the Senate and lb ouse speaker," Andrews said. He added that he believed Sen. B. Mahany, Republican oor leader was "impressed by hat idea." "Apparently, however, the Re- ubhcan leadership in the House was all set for a final adjournment. The story goes that the 30- lay recess plan would have been adopted had it not been for the ears entertained by Republican Area Deaths leaders that, if the governor knew the General Assembly was to reconvene, he might possibly veto the general appropriation bill." Andrews issued his statement in reply to a declaration by Mahany that he hoped the 1957 session would be the last to adjourn finally.
