A- 'broad smile on his face, Nixon delayed entering Rome's Grand Hotel to greet more than 1,000 spectators who blocked tine street. Italian Prime Minister Antonio Segni led a delegation of top Italian officials who welcomed Nixon at Ciampimo Airport, after a two- hour flight from Libya, which temporarily ended his seven-nation African goodwill tour. During Nixon's 10-mile drive from the airport in an open car, the welcome grew increasingly enthusiastic. Some 10,000 Italians were lined up waving and applauding. With Mrs.

Nixon seatad beside him, the Vice President drove past ancient monasteries and ruins of old viaducts in the spring- like weather to the hotel. Upon arriving, Nixoi. praised the Italian government and said it "stands side by side" in seeking to solve many problems "in world councils in a joint search for lasting peace. Segni, in welcoming Nixon, called him "an authoritative representative of a great country, our friend and ally, and the foremost collaborator of President Eisenhower." Americans "owe a tremendous debt" to Italy, he said, "not only for the tens of thousands of Americans of Italian descent but for the culture Italy has contributed to the growth of America." UP) Two men drowned last night as their small roat sank in a deep channel of he Allegheny River just south of he Petroleum Street Bridge.

(ffl-Two men burned to death Thursday when their panel truck overturned on a curve near here and burst into flames.
