The enterprisiuic Span-Urd reqaested Mr. Otis to write a no-t ee of the two curious children Mr. Otis spun off, one-half a column, -in which he reviewed tl history of the Aztec iribe of Mexico, described minutely the appearance of the children, and concluded his article bv declaring that were theole survivors of the once powerful Aztec Tacc.

The children were named the Aztec children and no ono save their owner ami nir. ns Knew me iiue story oi their lives. No sooner had Mr. Barnum heard of the children than he began negotiations for their purchase, which he accomplished for a small sum, and exhibited them through the country, publishing the history written by Mr. Otis and circulating it wherever he went.

Soon after he took them to Europe, where ethnologists and scientists of all classes took them in hand, read the history and unanimously declared them to be genuine Aztec children. Immense success met them wherever they were exhibited and all oyer the country the now famous children were objects of daily discussion. ai tne iioyai Academy in rserim a long and hot discussion was held as to whether the children were genuine Aztecs, and two eminent professors from the Academy were sent to Mexico to trace the origin of the Aztec tribe.
