SHOPS CANNOT GIVE A GOOD OUTPUT. MEN ARE NEEDED Every Machiniit Who Comet Along Finds Employment, and Officials Are Looking for Men Where They Cannot Be The capacity of the new T. locomotive shops has been curtailed on account of a lack of men. With every person employed who comes along, still the shops need many more men. Anxiety is on thu minds of officials; because the full ca-" pacity of the new shops is especially needed at present to put the motive power of the railway in excellent con I.

I ditioii tor tne auiumn rusn 01 unsi With the full capacity of the new a new locomotive can be turned out every day. This means that every locomotive that goes into the building is taken apart and thrown around as so much junk. Every boh and rivet is taken The, machinists go through the pile and rebuild the engine. Every part is) tested, and those pieces which arc the least bit defective are thrown away and new ones substituted. Wher.

a locomotive comes out of the new shops it is as good as a new one, ancl its life is as long as one coming di rectly from the manufacturer. But with the men that are lacking! probably only one-third of the capacity can be maintained. The material is present, the machinery "tools are prpsent, but men cannot1 b( found. If there were plenty of mei; employed in the new shops nine lo comntive9 would be turned out this-week. Twenty-five locomotives stand outside the new shop building, makinj? a line that extends for two city blocks in length, and they are all dead one-waiting for a chance to go inside anc" be repaired.

As fast as a new engine goes out of the shops and on duty, another is entered at the other door. The K. T. railway has made effort in all directions to secure men to work in the fine, new shops. Man? ones have arrived, more could be employed.

With men already employed elsewhere, and with all transients secured, the railway up against a proposition to steal or manufacture men. The steel work inir trades seem to be full of wonder ful opportunities, ever increasing, and! the young man who enters this tndus its life is as long as.one coming di job. HOFFMANN COMING HOME.
