Felco-Land 9 Lakes plans Coop training session CADET MONTY MILLER Monty Miller to graduate West Point WEST POINT, N. Y. Cadet Monty L. Miller, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs.

Russell E. Miller, Route 1, Ringsted, will graduate from the U. S. Military Academy, West Point, N. on June 9.

Cadet Miller will receive a Bachelor of Science degree and will be commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the U. S. Army. His career branch will be the field artillery. A 1967 Graduate of Ringsted Community School in Ringsted.

He was appointed to the Academy as a qualified alternate. While at West Point, Cadet Miller was a member of the Spanish Language Club and the Fine Arts Forum. During his senior year he held the rank of Cadet Lieutenant and served as a company administration officer. Secretary of Defense Melvin R. Laird will give the graduation address to the newly commissioned officers.

The U. S. Military Academy is located on the Hudson River, 50 miles above New York City. Since 1802, West Point has provided a significant number of career officers to the Army. Ledyard troop prepares poison center lists The Ledyard Boy Scouts of Troop 79 have prepared a list of poison centers in this area, as a part of safety badge work.

Cooperative training will be the emphasis of the 20th annual Lakes Conference sponsored by Felco Land CP lakes of Fort Dodge, Iowa. Managers, supervisory per-, sonnel and local cooperative employees from Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota and South Dakota will attend a series of four separate conferences held at Vacation Village on the shores of Lake Okoboji. The conference aims to provide continuing education, information and motivation to local cooperative personnel. Opening dates for each three day conferences are: June 9 for local cooperative employees; a managers conference on June 13; June 20 for a management development conference; and a managers conference for Minnesota, Wisconsin, South Dakota and North Dakota on June 26. The management development conference scheduled for June 20 is directed toward supervisory and other key local personnel.

Cooperative managers, farmer-producers, experts from Felco-Land Lakes and other businesses, films and group discussions are part of the conference programs. A feature of each Lakes Conference is two farmer-producers discussing changes in farming practices. Roy Olson of Dickens; Herman Andreson of Terril; and Rodney Graham of Lake Park will discuss changes observed on their farms during the last decade. Gilbert Stanek of Moorland, Dave Ackerman of Lakefield, and Wayne Northey of Spirit Lake will predict changes to anticipate in the next ten years. The Lakes Conferences also include a complete schedule of social activities for wives and children of local cooperative personnel.

For the ladies inspirational and entertaining type speakers are scheduled. A variety of recreational type activities are planned for the children. New church parsonage opened. Obituary. Ida Nehon Funeral services for Ida Hurlburt Nelson, 81, Swea City, will be Tuesday at 2 p.m.

at the United Methodist Church in Swea City. Mrs. Nelson, who died of heart failure at 8:45 a.m. Saturday at her home in Swea City, was born June 3, 1890, at Earlville, to August and Elizabeth Herke. She received her education at Paw Paw, and was married Sept.

20, 1911, to Fred Hurlburt at Osgood, in Palo Alto County. The Hurlburts farmed in Palo Alto County until 1942, when they moved to Swea City. Mr. Hurlburt died Oct. 16, 1944.

On Sept. 27, 1945, she was married to Elmer Nelson. He died July 15, 1960. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Swea City. Mrs.

Nelson is survived by three sons, Maynard and Mane 11 Hurlburt of Swea City, and Alfred Hurlburt of Ledyard; three step children, Marvin Nelson, Fullerton, Keith Nelson, Estherville, and Ruth Hurlburt, Swea City; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; eight stepchildren; and three grandchildren. Also surviving are four brothers, Bill and Frank Herke, Graettinger; Ed Herke, Emmetsburg; and Herman Herke of Wallingford; and sisters, Mrs. Clara Jackson, and Mrs. Minnie Wikert, Emmetsburg; Mrs. Susie Egeland, Estherville; Mrs.

Carrie Miller, Springfield, and Mrs. Martha Webb, Fort Myers, Fla. She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, and one sister. The Rev. W.

M. Bloodworm will officiate at the funeral, with burial to be at Harrison Township Cemetery in Swea City. Reese Henry Funeral Home, Swea City, is in charge. Pallbearers will be grandsons, including James, Lyman and Tom Hurlburt, David Fitz, EldonHaas and Ronald Kramer. George Singer George Singer, 82, died Saturday at 5:35 p.m.

at Holy Family Hospital from heart failure. He had been ill for three weeks. He was born April 27, 1889, at Dale, to the late Henry and Minnie Singer. He received his education in Spencer County schools in Indiana. He was married on Feb.

22, 1919, to Marie Kellogg at Montour. They moved to Palo Alto County in 1923 from McCalls- burg. He farmed atMcCallsburg, Story County, and moved on a farm east of Graettinger in 1923. He retired in 1946, and moved to Graettinger in 1952. The couple noted their 52nd wedding anniversary in February of this year.

He was a member of the Mason Lodge, Emmetsburg, the Ernest Lodge No. 399 AFAM, and a member of the United Methodist Church of Graettinger. Survivors are his wife, Marie, Graettinger; one daughter, Mrs. George (Marian) Cocks, Ithica, N.Y.; four grandchildren and one brother, Walter, Dale, Ind. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and three brothers.

Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at United Methodist Church, Graettinger, with the Rev. Harlan Babcock officiating. Burial will be at Valley View Cemetery, Graettinger, with the Fuhrman Funeral Home of Graettinger in charge. Visitation will be after 3 p.m.

Tuesday. Pallbearers are Maurice Jacobson, Dale Garber, Edwin Tindall, Lori Luckinger, Bill Brown, and Orville Nicol. The Terril United Methodist Church held open house on Sunday at their new parsonage. The event was also in conjunction with a Silver Wedding Tea, hosted by Mr. and Mrs.

Neppel, Dolliver, cattleman and farmer, was one of several Iowa farmers, farm editors and broadcasters and Iowa agricultural officials at a breakfast meeting in the offices of Iowa Governor Robert Ray recently. The Governor arranged the breakfast to give his guests an opportunity to meet and visit with Richard Lyng, assistant secretary of the United States Department of Agriculture, Washington, D.C., who was in Des Moines to attend a later meeting on grain freight rates. Lyng spoke informally to the group for about an hour, and participated in a question-answer session. Donald Eldridge, Route 1, Terril, recently was promoted to Private Pay Grade E-2 and awarded a letter of commendation upon completion of basic training at the Women's Army Corps Center, Ft. McClellan, Ala. She was promoted two months earlier than is customary under the army policy providing incentive for outstanding trainees. Her promotion was based on her military bearing, leadership potential and scores attained during the training. The letter of commendation was presented in recognition of her academic standing in the course.

During the eight weeks of training, she received instruction in Army History and Traditions, Administrative Procedures, Mil- tary Justice, First Aid and Field Training. Her father, Wayne G. and Mrs. Russell Johnson of Graettinger, is a candidate for 1973-75 president of the Minnesota Education Association. Beckman is a social studies teacher at Albert Lea senior high school, and has the endorsement of the Albert Lea Education Association. Election for the presidency will be held next fall. The presidency becomes vacant in July, 1973.

The current president's term, that of Robert Arnold, expires in July when he will be succeeded for a two-year term by a teacher from Red Wing. Beckmann will be opposed for the vacancy by a White Bear Lake teacher. Beckmann, 34, a former president of MEA local chapters in Albert Lea and Mountain Lake, Joined the Albert Lea Senior High faculty four years ago. Currently working toward an M.S. degree in curriculum and instruction, he earned his B.S.

at Mankato State. Throughout 12 active years in education the Fairmont native has held numerous position in state, regional Plan Art Center showing JERALD BECKMANN and community teachers organizations. He was Albert Lea's delegate to 1968 National Education Association representative assembly, and was a member of Albert Lea contract negotiations council the past two years.
