Sofia, Bulgaria, Oct. 3. (By the Associated Press). Twelve former Premiers and Government Ministers are now in jail, where they are being held in ex pause in which we both turned the The Right Style At The Right Time question over in our minds, "anyway, you know that I love you and I mean to marry you!" "What nonsense!" I declared, my thoughts diverted at once. "I am married!" "Yes," he retorted, "you are not! iast Wires State Department to Take Action.

Washington, Oct. 2 TJhe State Department had before it today a cablegram from Dr. James Cannon, bishop of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, who is in Europe as a member tfoahe- Cmiee investigating East for American tl Cli nd rehef organizations. The message was not made public hut-it i-- WAS MARRIAGE THE ONLY SOLUTION. It was on the tip of my tongue to cry out that I was married to a man I loved but not to a man who loved me! But fortunately for my self respect, Ted went on before I could speak.

"He did take advantage of you!" he repeated. "He has a maiden aunt living up the Hudson somewhere, a wealthy old lady Who could very well have taken you under her wing, if he was so anxious to see that you vere taken care of and not left alone in the world!" I gasped. "You mean that?" I asked incredulously when I could get breath. "Certainly I do! She's a nice old lady not so very old at that, come to tbifck of it. And Alec is her only living relative.

She eats out of his hand. All he needed to do was to ask her." "Then wh why did he marry me?" I faltered. "Don't ask me!" Ted was a picture of gloom. "I've stayed awake nights ever since vou told me. trying to figure pectation of the adoption of a referendum in which the people will vote whether they guilty or not guilty of embroiling Bulgaria in war.

In the round-up which took place last Tuesday the police were aided by peasants who guarded every avenue of escape from the city while the arrests were made. Most of the Ministers had been guarded day and night in their homes and their capture was effected with ease.

I've just told you your marriage was a fake and that's gospel truth! I don't know what old Alec's object in marrying you was, but it won't make any difference to me! I'm going to make you love me and when that happens, you'll get a divorce from Alec and we'll get married a real marriage, this time!" "Silly boy!" I said. "I haven't the slightest intention of getting a divorce!" And then I bit my tongue for fear I should say more! Whether Alec loved me or not. I was still his wife! I would take what comfort I could in that fact. "That's all right!" Ted said coldly. "You'll sing another song when you fall in love with me." "Yes, when I do!" I retorted.

And then we looked at each other and burst out laughing simultaneously. What children we both were! Scrapping, actually, over the prospect of our getting married or not! In connection with Dr. Cannon's message no authorized statement was available nor was it disclosed whether Secretary Hughes planned to reply. It is known, however, that the policy of the Government in: relation to the Near Eastern situation is flatly to any such intervention as Dr. Cannon suggested.

The American Government has already indicated to all parties to the controversy revolving about the Turkish straits its fixed belief that the straits should be free to ships of all nations, that racial and religious minorities, everywhere should be protected and its hope that there would, be a cessation of hostilities in the Near East. Beyond this there is no indication what the Washington Government plans to do. Plans to Fly Across North Pole Without Stop. Seattle, Oct. 3.

(By the Associated Press.) Word direct from Captain Roald Amundsen that he and his pilot, Lieutenant Omdahl, will hop off from Wiunwright, Alaska, the latter part of May or the first of June to fly across the North Pole to Spitzbergen was brought to Seattle today by E. J. Ward, Government school teacher at Wainwright. Amundsen plans, Ward says, to make the flight of approximately 1,700 miles across the polar solitudes in one jump, carrying for subsistence only a bottle of hot tea and a sandwich. When he left Wainwright, Ward said, Amundsen and Omdahl were building their winter quarters, a cabin on the beach near the school house.

They, are well supplied with food and fuel, having killed two whales, some walrus and seal, and having a reindeer herd of 4,000 animals and a coal mine neart'. The schooner Maud, Amundsen's exploration ship, according to Ward, is drifting northward in the ice flow at such speed that the explorer was of the opinion It might cross the pole and reach Soitzberger in a year though it may take longer. The Maud is provisioned for seven years. 3g Just Arrived! Simeon Fess, who is regarded by his own Republican colleagues in the House as hardly a second rate member. Beveridge's Progressive associates say he is now showing his true colors. Until very recently many Democrats in Washington felt keen that the party in Minnesota had nominated a woman, Mrs.

Olesen, as a candidate for the Senate as against Senator They have been convinced that the right man could easily defeat a very vulnerable aspirant. Mrs. Olesen was nominated under unusual circumstances. The chairman of the convention became ill and his substitute not knowing the program allowed the convention to entertain itself with oratory. Mrs.

Olesen, who is a charming woman and an excellent political speaker, got the floor and with her eloquence captured the delegates and stampeded the convention. Many Democrats feared a senatorship had been thrown away but Mrs. Ole-sen's candidacy has not only won for hr possible success in Minnesota but lias made friends among the women voters throughout the country for the Democrats. Democrats are now able to point to the fact that two of their candidates for the Senate are women, while Senator McCormick, of Illinois, hah-man of the Republican Senatorial Committee, has given out a statement to the effect that no woman is intellectually fit to be a United States Senator. But whatever the result of the election a great many new faces, will be seen in the next Senate and some very familiar figures will be missing.

There is one man in the Senate that the Democrats would like nothing so well as to be able to shelve. That man is Senator Dodge and there is little hope defeating him. The feeling among Democrats is that they threw away their opportunity in Massachusetts. At all dealers, 60c box. Foster-Mitburn Chemists, Buffalo, N.
