for the installation of officers of the Sacramento Sales Executives Club will be held Saturday starting at 6 PM at the home of Supervisor Ancil Hoffman at Fair Oaks Boulevard and Green Back Lane The annual event to which wives of club members are invited will start with swimming to be followed by dinner the installation of the new officers entertainment and dancing The new president of the dub i Moore i'Sj Lighter Fluid Makes Youth Flaming Torch AKRON A movie audience was startled in the Strand Theater yesterday when Daniel Hallinan 14 screaming and his pants in flames ran into the restroom and started rolling on the floor A man grabbed the boy ripped off his shirt and used it to smother the fire The youth son of Councilman Joseph Hallinan of nearby Barberton blamed the blaze on a leaking can of lighter fluid- He said he was sitting In the theater when he felt his pants getting damp He started to a restroom to discover tha cause and said he lit a cipret lighter before he realized the can of fluid in his pocket was leaking He was taken to a hospital with severe bums on his back and legs His condition was reported as fair today dp1 fH jfv 1 SAN FRANCISCO UP Serious crime in general decreased in California during 1955 despite an increase in auto thefts and rape cases The state bureau of criminal fourth report issued by Attorney General Edmund Brown showed a decrease in the seven major offenses for the first time since the bureau was started in 1952 The bureau noted that the 1955 level was below those of 1954 and 1953 but pointed out that the crime level was increasing during the later half of the year and might indicate another higher rate for 1956 Robbery Dip Biggest Robbery showed the greatest decrease among felony crimes and auto thefts the greatest increase There was a small increase in the rape rate The burfeau reported an increase in auto theft reports and a decrease in auto theft prosecutions but pointed out that the increase in thefts may be the result of activities of youths under 18 youths when apprehended are not accounted for as the report adds About 24 per cent of those arrested on felony charges were juveniles The reported by police agencies as resulting in the filing of 24858 felony complaints and 9888 misdemeanor complaints Los Angeles County accounted for 56 per cent of fil- youth authority and police Hicks Reports 488 Serious Crimes In June Police Chief James Hicks disclosed 488 major crimes were committed in Sacramento last month an increase of 126 over that of the corresponding period in 1955 The chiefs report yesterday to City Manager Bartley Cavanaugh showed an increase in the number of major offenses cleared by arrest last month Ninety four were cleared last month as compared to 50 during June of last year Crimes Listed The types of crimes and the number of offenses last month as compared to the same period a year ago follow with his figures listed first: Manslaughter two none rape two one robbery 15 eight: aggravated assault 12 six burglary 79 48 grand theft 327 236 auto theft 51 63 A total of 8678 persons were arrested or cited last month for all types of law infractions including traffic and parking law violations In June 1955 the total was 8227 Since the first of the year arrests and citations have totaled 72662 an increase of 1909 for the first six months of last year $86209 Stolen Hicks placed the valuation of property stolen here last month at $86209 while the value of property recovered totaled $36089 The report also shows four persons were injured and 152
