Staten into a bureaucracy Before election Mr Poosevelt claimed the government was too expensive If elected he would cut the cost of government at least 25 per cent After election he took the directly opposite course Ills government now has a hundred bureaus In one as compared to the ItrOWPT administration government that Washington founded with only three main departments is now carried on regulated and bossed by bureaus Judging by what the New Deal has done in the past snd by Mn MITMOVV)1 criticism is pertinent and should be appreciated It should more than that be taken to heart This opportunity has coin and gone and is beyond recall but others of similar nature are ahead Large numbers of soldiers will be visiting Charlotte during the next few weeks The maneuvers which are two weeks off will flood this section with them and their kinspeople end NriFitors Thus the chance will corms again to demonstrate whether Charlotte is honestly a Friendly City or whether this name is a by-word a nd a hissing mock NOT HIS ANY MORE THE POSITION OF THE FINNS The American people who under I stand and sensibly appreciate the posi lion of Finland will be prepared for i the statement that the Finns will be ready to talk peace with Ru us as ssia jt soon as they wrest back from the Sot viets the territory plundered from them couple of years ago It may have been difficult for the people of the United States to reconcile the established reputation of the Finns for justice honor freedom and integrity and their rapprochement with BITLER in his war against Russia They are obviously in stenchful corn- pany even detestable and contemptible to themselves but they may be entirely justified in the claim and supported by the facts of the CASP in contending that they would not have Asrociated them selves with the Nazis in war with Rug sia in the first place except that the latter in its resisting to the Nazis deliberately provoked them and made their present position inevitable Finland has a right to the possessions and territories plundered from them by the Soviets There was no basis in jug tice for the latter to have invaded that little country in the months ago and by reason of sheer superiority of might crushed them into submission to in: ordinate and brutal demands Now that the Finns have virtually re': captured that which was stolen from them they indicate a readiness to call it quits with the Russians and perhaps for all that may now be known in in formed circles ready to align themselves with Russia and turn against the Nazis with whom they have nothing in common and of whom they have just as much reason to be afraid as the Russians themselves This would appear of course to give the appearance of a callousness of conscience and a distortion of honorable principles with which the Finns are not associated in the public mind but as much of a paradox as such procedure would seem to be it would not militate against the standing of Finland for gal lantry and integrity of both National and individual spirit and character in the light of historical reality THE Thf I stand 'lion 4 the a ready soon viels I a etri 1 It I i peoplc the es for ju i cause of so many diseases that directly come from what we eat I have been informed tnat when we come into this world our bodies contain 32 different minerals and that the deficiency of any of these will cause some disease Why should not this be right as we know that God did not make us with these minerals without a purpose Now I contend tha the real cause 'lies in our methods used now in the manufacture of fertilizers I do not believe that the use of large quantities of sulphuric acid which is used to destroy the rock in phosphate in order to make availability is healthy irt that it also destroys the minerals and vitamins in the ground and that when IA' eat these vegetables flour and meal breads are not getting the essentials In Florida I found farmers growing beans potatoes tomatoes and other vegetables with immense quantities of manufactured fertihzers per acre and on top of this were also using calcium arsenate and other poisonous sprays and dusts to keep the insects off and these same vegetables are hauled in immense quantities to our stores which are sold all the winter to poor and rich alike Any truck can haul them 14 nd now y'ou can find these vegetables even in the small backwood shops Even in Eastern North Carolina our farmers are using from 1000 to 1500 pounds of high analysis fertilizers per acre to make the potatoes that go into the markets all over the United Stales rtrith each 1000 pounds of fertilizers put into I the soil there has been at least 150 pounds of pure sulphuric acid used In its manufacture According to the fertilizer Year Book there were used in the South by the fertilizer manufacturers that year over 1500- 000 tons cif sulphuric acid I do not think of course that this sulphuric acid goes into the human being direct but I do believe that it has destroyed the natural minerals in the soil and that therefore the vegetables do not contain that which is absolutely necessary to human beings Why could we tint have our Health Department to analyze these vegetables and unless they contain the necessary minerals force the sellers to give each customer the minerals or else refused to allow the sale of them Personally I believe that arthri neuri Lis ulcerated st omach heart failure and varinic other diseases could be directly traced to he lark of minera Is in i he human stomach A BYNUM Charlotte I ATE the afternoons
