a I I of of McCLATCHY NEWSPAPERS SERVICE THE BEE'S SUPERIOR CALIFORNIA NEWS FRIDAY, JANUARY 14, 1955 Page 23 Sacramento, California Favor Gaming Cleanup By Revising Law By Len Lefkow CARSON CITY, Nev. APA concerned Nevada Tax Commission voted unanimous approval for a revision of the state's gambling control laws aimed at "the bums out of the business." Commission Counsel E. Frandsen Loomis, who described Nevada's gambling laws as "a hodgepodge," went into session with legislative bill drafters immediately after the seven member commission okayed the move yesterday. Will Urge Speed The commission indicated it will ask the state legislature for sneedv: approval. The lawmak ers will convene Monday.

Loomis, talking in biting phrases to the gambling control agency members, lashed out at what he called some unscrupulous attorneys who have come before the commission. "These men," Loomis said, "are more interested in earning a $20,000 fee than in seeing that the right men get a gambling license. Under present conditions, we have too many wise guys who tell clients 'I can do it for you I have a friend'." Abuse Is Cited Loomis named no names but commented he felt the lawyers figured in the celebrated investigation into alleged secret interests in the lavish Thunderbird Hotel abused the attorney-client relationship. Former Democratic Lieutenant Governor Clifford Jones, a partned in the Las Vegas Strip hotel, refused to answer tions of the commission last Oc. tober, maintaining it would violate privilege between himself and a client of his partner, Louis Weiner.
