Morning, June 7, 1970 CONCLAVE SET JUNE 24 Be Host To Noted Harpists announced that Maria Korchinska from Great Britain and Phia Berghout from the Netherlands, bolh harpists of international will play the gala opening concert of the Seventh National Conference of the American Harp Society to he hold June 24-27 at Texas Tech University. The conference is sponsored by the International Center for Arid and Semi-Arid Land Studies, with Gail Barber conference chairman and as the l.ubbock Chapter of the American Harp Society as host. The American Harp Society, founded by Marcel Grandjany, is the largest branch of the International Harp Society, made up of leading professional harpists, pedagogues and students. Several of the world's most renowned harpists will be in Lubbock for the four-day conference as performers and as lecturers. Make U.

A number of works have been written for her. Phia Berghout, the Dutch harpist, was born in Rotterdam. After graduating from the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, she became solo-harpist in the Amerslerdom Concertgebomv Orchestra, a position she held for 28 years.
