Yes you're correct ond he got spevial new-- paper write-ups for his work in this Play (Must have come natural) And here is his picture on a postcard taken in Chicago and we wonder who that gal is alongside of him? Can't seem to remember her name! Strange! But we do remember that they were taken in one of those "Your picture taken in three minutes" stores with those green electric tights that made everybody look as if they were seasick And speaking of Chicago we remember one engagement we had there There was an old German chap who ran a theater on the North Side His name was Schindler and Schindiees theater was well known It was a barn of a place that would hold about 2500 people During the week days Brother Schindler (who spoke very broken English) would run moving pictures and about three acts of vaudeville for 10 cents but on Sundaye---ah that was when he got his gravy! On Sundays he would arrange to have eight acts of vaudeville for his show but at the booking agents on the day before he would engage 16 acts of vaudeville It was customary in those days that if an act did not make plod at the first show' in a theater they were (to use a trade term) "closed" Old Man Schindler never could get this term straight and when "closing" an set he would Invariably say "You're shut!" The 16 acts would turn up Sundays at I ocloek for rehearsals pnd the picture would start at 2 o'clock Admission prices were 25 cents for adults and 10 cents for children on Sundays and all the neighborhned and his clientele knew that there were 16 different acts of vaudeville plus a motion picture on thie Pram With the show starting at 2 o'clock and the picture running an hour and half this would make a show of approximately five and a half hours in length letting out at 7:30 At that time Old Man Schindler would come to the dressing rooms and fire eight of the acts with the customary "You're shut" to each one thereby getting eight acts in the afternoon that cost him nothing On our Sunday there we were in a dressing room with two husky siwedish gymnasts the Peterson brothers 'who did a very fair strong man and handtn-hand beleneing act After the show we heard knock on the dressing room door 1 and Old Man Schindler stuck his head 4n and pointing at me said1 "You're ell right" Then pointing at the two Peterson brothers he snarled "You're shut!" The two husky well over six-font Scanina-1 vians advanced to the door like one man saying in a nlenacing tone "We're what?" And Old Man i Schindler replied "You're fine! You can stay here all the week" And that's what they did And while this column stays in this paper all the week it is only on Sundays that we have the op! portunity to give you the list of our Wayside
