8000 or 10000 persons Is expected to jnin Richardson stadium many of them taking advantage of the opportunity to mc the team that decisively worked on Tennessee's vaunted Yols In Durham last week While everybody was worked up to the highest kind of pitch Doc Newton Davidson' head coach had little to say When informed there was a rumor Wallace Wade would start his second team Newton said: will not affect our plana They have a mighty good team but our boys will do the best they Sol Likes Football MM Bantams Need A 't i' I -itfV- 1 Sol Says Pro Team Should Develop More Shifty Attack Business Take that game In Memphis last Sunday We lost it because we have enough weight and reserves Too much like a middle fighting a heavyweight WILDCATS COME BACK Charlotte then made a strong comeback to tie the score before the half ended Littlejohn kicked off to Gill on the 10 and he returned It to the 37 On the first play Gadd got 15 yards at right tackle Max Holder then got 10 and a first down Gadd got four more at tackle Then Littlejohn Inter ccpted Gadd's pass to Graces hut the Spartanburg team was off sides and the play was called hack Gadd then threw a pretty pass to Charles Hanes for field against Tennessee except that Tarzan Belue stocky Charlotte youth would be a quarterback In place of the In jured Hoi ace Hendrickson Otherwise the Dukes are in tip top shape The team arrived In Concord at 5:30 too late for a workout there and Coach Wade reached town about an hour later They will move to Davidson early today Davidson will be elighti crippled Henry Cathey Charlolt boy and soph called on however The squad went through a light workout late yesterday and showed Great Blue Devils Come to Davidson Today What Chance Have the If Any? TTITH ECHOES of their magnificent victory over Ten-" nessee last Saturday still being heard across the football world the Duke Blue Devils today come over to Davidson to battle the Wildcats a Big Five foe who can be dangerously stubborn on occasions We have run freih out of adjectives in telling about the great spectacle of football the Blue Devils essayed for the clients last Saturday so we will have to turn the spotlight on some of the things that may happen today and some of the things that are sure to happen today If there is anything for which we have an exceedingly limited talent it is in guessing how football games will come out (I am not alluding now to the ability of Ath-a-letic A1 who really is not so bad In fact there have been times when I was truly proud of the genius of the man with the left-handed brain) But jour agent himself is no good in this guess work business and he makes no bones about it Yet a sports clients have a habit of dashing to him to get his opinions about these matters and will beat I take Davidson and 12 points and get awaw with Davidson got a These things I do not know I have my ideas of course but my ideas usually turn out to be very bum and have a habit of leaving me shall I say very foolish Sometimes I print them sometimes I The latter course is always the wisest but the policy of omission always makes me wonder if I am not shirking my duties After all even though I am no good at expert-ing they pay me to do it Teams Must Look Out for Future Games Safety Men Must Look Out for Crawford THERE ARE many angles to this game For one game with State next week which the Wildcat mentors feel they have a good chance of winning game with Kentucky next' week which may be very tough and which the Blue Devil mentors would hate like the dickens to lose All this Rose Bowl talk whbh probably will be curse on Duke from now to the end of the season There are many angles but after considering them all I am inclined to believe the Blue Devils a great team will beat the Wildcats never a pushover and pretty slick by its own talents by at least three and maybe four touchdowns But let me remind you again that I am no good at this business of experting So bet Just keep your money in your pockets go to the game and enjoy yourself Regardless of the outcome you should get enjoyment from this game And watch Freddie Crawford who should be an All-American this year Watch him in particular on going down under punts See the Duke men let him slide through ind go down Watch him beaf the ends and land on the Davidson safety man Watch him destroy any chance for a good return even though he may not make the complete tackle This is a show in itself For Crawford is very vicioys and very fast As long as I live I will never forget the way Freddie worked on Deke Brackett and Beattie Feathers two of the greatest backs in that Tennessee game As one of the original Crawford men I got a thrill out of his performance in that game that goes down in my note book as one of the keenest I have ever experienced JHE OTHER DAY we printed that a spectator at the Caro lina-Gcorgia game said the Duke-Tennessee score was announced there at half-time and the spectators cheered Some one tells me that another state paper has reported that the Duke-Tennessce score was not even announced at the Chapel Hill stadium It is not a matter of any great moment but just to see if we had made a mistake we checked vp and found at least six other persons who heard the an -nouncement at Chapel Hill So it must have been made Or could it be that these fellows just heard the spectators cheering in the Durham bowl and guessed Duke was leading Maybe they even heard me I gave at least one loud warwhoop which I believe could have been heard 12 miles away Maybe they even heard it in Charlotte Give Him All He Deserves Two Harrowing Experiences in One Day IN WRITING of the South Carolina-Clemson game for purposes of expedition we used statistics compiled by another dependable scribe Yesterday however just as a check we looked over our own detailed notes and found that Harold Mauney gained 161 yards from scrimmage and NOT just 117 10 Instead of 27 to 10" Sol continued Is some kind of a dizzy rule about nobody touching the man about to crab the ball that's being thrown to him Memphis matt chunked the hall to another Memphis man and Pos Keeler dashed In front of him ready to laid him down They said Dos Interfered and gave Memphis the touchdown It looked like a home town decision I don't know a hell of a lot about football but Dos wasn't trying to Interfere jnt getting ready to flop that man when he canght the hall helleve our hoys used their left enough They tried to slug with an opponent that outweighed them plenty (Sol has the right Idea If you ask any of our successful coaches) beat Memphis when we get them here We'll have a stronger line I handed them one already with a pep talk we had In the dressing room
