Offensive Shines As Offensive Alexander Best By RUSSELL ROGERS Charlotte High rampant Wildcat football machine yesterday rolled over Asheville Maroons to turn in an easy 41 to 0 victory An amazing array of line pluug- lng end circling backs swept over around and through the Maroons to register a victory by the largest margin by which Charlotte ever defeated Asheville The Wildcats crashed and battered defense to pieces In the first half scoring thirteen point In the opening quarter and 21 in the second After the half they came back to score seven more and then lay back and took It easy for the remainder or the contest falling to score In the final period Match In Goal Line Crossed by Carolina and Duke but Plays Are Called Even Game By BAILEY GR00ME Durham Nov 21 The University of North Carolina and Duke University football teams played to a scoreless tie here today before 22000 fans probably the largest attendance ever to see a strictly all-State game It wu a hard fought battle throughout with honors as even as the score would Indicate Each side annexed seven first downs the Duke boys getting six of theirs in the first half one In the last while Carolina made three In the first half and four In the final hah' It was a colorful crowd that eat in the giant horseshoe and cheered for their favorites There were only some seven vacant tiers In the huge concrete ampltheater BREAKS TO CAROLINA There were only two breaks In the game and the Tar Heels got the advantage In both of these Adkins threw two balls away one In each half for losses of more than 30 yards and placing Carolina in an advantageous position to score both times but the mighty Duke line was too powerful for them and they could not negotiate the yardage Duke won the toss at the end of the game since there was no winning team to take the coveted friendship cup and won the trophy The Carolina captain as a gesture of politeness gave the cup Into the hands of Duke to hold for another year or In other words until it can win It which It has failed to do for the last two years There were several battles going on In the line while the backs were trying to gain ground Perhaps the most strenuous lntrumural fights was staged between Gilbreath and Adkins at center The Carolina boy was riding Adkins fiercely throughout and must have punished hint pretty badly since Adkins was re fponslble for a couple of bad tosses to the backfleld and both of which might have been dangerous SSEll AM) OTHERS Ihe most consistent ground gainer were Slusser and Phipps for Carolina and Mason and Brewer for the Duke boys though neither team had any consistent gains to write home about there was too much line on each side for the backfleld of the other While the stands were filling the Carolina and Duke bands paraded and played their college numbers The weather was fine and clear and the greensward of the gridiron never looked prettier There was a lot of college spirit displayed In both 6tands The Duke club trotted upon the field first and was greeted by an outburst of enthusiasm Soon the Tar Heel eleven trotted out and the Carolina stands went wild CAROLINA CHOOSES GOAL Carolina won the toss and chose the south goal putting their backs to the sun Duke lined up to receive In the north When It is said that Duke made six first downs and Carolina two in the first half It can be seen pretty well that Duke was playing the best game Carolina took heart near tha end of the period however and reeled off a couple of ten-yard deshes White going for one and Thompson making the other Neither side was doing anything with the other's line and Duke was filling the air with passes throwing no less than fourteen and getting away with four the longest being for eighteen yards Carolina tried three but none of them connected Carolina kicked to Duke at the five-yard line and Ershler brought It back to the 35-yard line Held for downs Lansy kicked lor forty yards Carolina failed and Croom kicked hack for forty yards The ball sce-sawed back and forth for the space of a couple of punts and then Brewer broke through for a 17-yard dash carrying the ball to the Tar Heel 23-yard marker On a reverse play Brewer carried the ball to the seven-yard line and It was first down and the stands were yelling for a touchdown nitEWMt SCORES CALLED BACK Brewer circled Carolina's left end for a score but It was not allowed because Duke was holding There was several more exchanges Mors on Third Sports Faye Tough For Both Twin Brothers Hurt In Grid Go Memphis Tcnn Nov 21 (IP) Southwestern rolled up a 54-13
