Thursday Evening, July II, 1974 A Notes) Arkansas EP Split Games By AiMdalid Frees Arkansas and El Paso split a owl Wednesday in a Texas League doubleheader that featured the hitting of Arkansas' Rich Leon. El Paso win the opener 8-3 and Arkansas rebounded to win the second contest 16-3 as Leon had four hits and six runs batted in, including a grand slam homer. The Travelers collected 19 hits in the second game, which ended after 1:30 a.m. CDT. In the opener, Sid Monge scattered 10 Arkansas hits to post his ninth straight victory after starting the season with two defeats.

El Paso now has a lead over second- place San Antonio in the TL West. In other games, East leader Victoria edged Amarillo 4-3, San Antonio nipped Alexandria 3-2 in 10 innings and Midland stomped Shreveport 91. Carlos Sagredo, a .197 hitter for Victoria at game time, hit a tie-breaking solo homer in the ninth inning as the beat Amarillo. The homer by Sagredo followed one by Mike Minster in the eighth Inning to tie the game 3-3. Rick Baldwin, in his 25th appearance of the season, picked up his fourth victory aginst four losses in relief.

Dennis Eckersley won his 10th game in 11 decisions as San Antonio beat Alexandria in the 10th inning cm Rex RBI single. Eckersley allowed only five Alexandria hits, and he struck out 11 Aces. Bill Huisman had four RBIs on three hits and Jerry Tabb hit a solo homer for Midland against Shreveport. However, the Bill Droege w-ent 0- for-6 to snap a 22 game hitting streak. Dave Geisel got the victory for Midland by scattering 11 Shreveport hits, including four by Tom Stedman.

Six Cowboy Veterans Report THOUSAND OAKS. Cal. (AP) -Six veteran players had reported to the Dallas Cowboys training carr.p here by Wednesday as linebacker Mike Keller and running back Les Strayhorn joined the squad.
