daylight until Cape Cod staged his dosing rush Cape Cod was blocked while attempting to move leaving the backstretch second period on a spectacular lateral-forward pass play and Jack-son evened the count in the third with a rrftrch overland Billy Goodwin Ken Wright and Jim Bobbitt figured in Miami 35-yard touchdown maneuver Goodwin tossed a long lateral to Wright in the right flats and then Ken wound up with a longer throw for Bobbitt The Miami Edison end took the toss on the Jackson goal line and stepped over Tom Tillis gave the Generals a chance to tie it up in the third when he smeared Wright's punt and recovered on the Miami Edison 30 Jackson shifted into high gear to roll downfield and into the end zone Bobby Ray went through the midde for the score Then in the final period Scarborough shook loose with an intercepted pass from his own 35-vard line for the margin of victory The visitors had reached the Jackson 10 earlier in the quarter only to be held for downs There was little to choose between the two teams in the matter of statistics Jackson was credited with nine first downs to Miami seven The losers however gained 174 yards to 162 for the Jacksonville team All of Jackson's gains were on the ground The Rod Raiders picked up 76 on land and 9S through the air Fdisnn Krown Young Blair Maksvmowich Doe Kmlaw Collins Perrm Wright McMillan Smith ONE OF MAINSPRINGS of the Jacksonville Marines attack is the 195-pound Charley Fisher who will start at right halfback against the University of Miami Hurricanes tonight in the Orange Bowl Before entering the service Fisher played for the University of Wisconsin (ft 20000 Fans Expected onight Three ronscmtive victories and a spotless season's record behind them Coach Eddie amazing University of Miami Hurricanes will try to make it four straight tonight in the Orange Bowl when they meet Coach Freddie Jacksonville NATTC eleven in a football game starting at 8:15 Miami will give away 12 pounds to the man in weight and immeasurably more than that in experience but the home team is relying on the same speed and fight which carried it to an upset 6-0 decision over this same eleven in the mud and mire of own field last October When the brighter lights go on again for the first time in the Orange Bowl they will he lighted for what is expected to be the largest crowd of the season Two previous Hurricane games have each drawn more than 16000 fans major attraction should bring in 20000 and possibly more proving once more that Miami is the greatest football city for its size in all the land Both coaches have been busy tossing out information about player losses before the game but each is able to muster a first string which can make the going tough for anyone Jacksonville is short nine men who were on the roster when Miami played in the upstate city but only two of these men Bill Borcher at end and Dominic San-zotta at fullback will be greatly missed BUFFERED HEAVY LOSSES The Hurricanes also suffered two beavv losses Eddie Ruzomherka at quarterback and Thil Kaplan at guard both graduating Harvey James a grand player will replace Ruzomberka but naturally won't handle his new assignment with the smoothness and finesse of the experienced Eddie guard job goes to Lonnie Deas a freshman with another first year boy Bill Levitt primed to go at guard in rse Leon Schultz does not answer the starting bell He has been ailing but has been named captain for this game The game should resolve itself into a duel between Miami's aprial attack and the solid smashing ground attack of the invaders who have in Gus Letchas former University of Georgia luminary a brilliant all around star Shifts in the Jacksonville backfield have added greater blocking power to the NATTC attack and Letchas is expected to be a big ground gainer in encounter For Miami Coach Dunn has been working on passing all week and half dozen lads are set to start tossing the ball just as soon as opportunity permits With several good passers and receivers Miami would do a lot of passing anyway With that huge Jacksonville team on the other side of the scrimmage bne the boys are likely to have to pass to do any gaining Miami's opponents will arrive at 9:30 a Friday for the game and will be quartered at the El Co mod or hotel lineups: ef Miami No Player 12 P-nsen 29 Klein 49 Schulte (c) 39 Schuler 30 Deas 44 Berwick UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI football team will beat the Jacksonville Naval Air Technical Training combination tonight at the Orange Bowl hut he closer than the cover on the hall which will be used in the game The Hurricanes whipped the visitors 6-0 in the rain and mud a month ago at Jacksonville This time however there be three points difference in the two teams at the final gun and Miami will probably get under the wire by one because the Air Raiders frankly want to win this one and are as prepared as the hands of Coach Freddy Frink and the prayers of their followers can make them no secret Frink has been pointing the Air Raiders for the game ever since Miami slipped up on them at Jacksonville Freddy former end coach at the University has made up his mind the Hurricanes going to beat him a second time and not in his own home town Frink's determination and square-jaw are known and respected here Gone from the Jacksonville players i3 the overconfident attitude they displayed toward the first contest Freddy has them fired up like a sawmill boiler Frink able to scout Miami before' and Coach Eddie Dunn admits this was an important factor in his victory The Jacksonville coach however has scouted the Hurricanes from end to end and center to fullback this time been down twice to watch the team himself and knows plays and players almost as well as Dunn The loss of Quarterback Eddie Ruzomberka and Guard Kaplan ly the Hurricanes has further evened the difference between the two teams Ruzomherka was the key blocker and signal caller Kaplan you remember blocked the Jacksonville punt which set up the winning touchdown In spite of all these handicaps I still think Miami will he able to squeeze home the winner on Arnold running and passing and A1 placekicking These Hurricanes have the fight and co-ordination to whip a cage full of wildcats also the matter of Ray punting The Naval student can hoot long and high when they are needed Miami and Jacksonville NATTC is only one of many tossups in this lineup You can flip a coin on the Princeton-Vil-lanova Brown-Yale Penn State-Cornell Pennsylvania-Navy LSU-Georgia Tech and Rice-Arkansas games as well Notre Dame looks like a Christmas bonus from the office in feature attraction against the Army at the Yankee Stadium The Irish have too much on both the ground and air for the Army and will win by two touchdowns as last year Even Angelo loss slow Notre Danie because Coach Frank Leahy's second and third teams are as effective as the regulars As I figure it there any question as to the outcome of 11 other contests Virginia will score over Maryland Oklahoma over Kansas Tulsa over Oklahoma A Michigan over Indiana Purdue over Minnesota Texas A over SMU Missouri over Iowa State Great Lakes over Camp Grant Northwestern over Wisconsin Holy Cross over Temple Dartmouth over Columbia You can expect two upsets Texas Tech will knock off TCU and Pittsburgh ill surprise Ohio State TCU is a 12-5 and Ohio State a 13-5 favorite in case you want to get in on the ground floor Iowa wall beat Illinois and Kansas State will whip Nebraska but the scores will be fairly close Last week?
