Early and Stays Ahead Bt EDDIE BRIETY Asftnciled Pre8 Sport Writer ATLANTA Ga Oct Georgia Tech Golden Tornado all but wrecked by North Carolina last week got back on the football map here today wltn a stirring 19 to 7 triumph over the vaunted Alligators from the University of Florida The victory knocked Florida's chances for a Southern championship higher than a kite and sent 7000 of the faithful who had come to Atlanta to see their team wallop the 1928 champions home with a splitting headache The Tornado scored a touchdown before the game was seven minutes old It added another each in the second and third Florida made Its only threat In the third period Florida's highly touted offensive failed to materialize and except for a brief spurt which resulted in their lone touchdown the Gators were on the defensive throughout the afternoon Earl Dunlap the passing quarterback and Thomason the backfield mainstay led the Tech team to victory They were given tip-top assistance also by the Tech line which stopped the Gator running attack dead Throughout the early stages of the game Crabtree and Company failed utterly to make headway through the Tornado line and frequent resorts to the aerial game were rendered futile In Inaccurate passing and frequent fumbles At times the offensive showed signs of clicking but the Alligators had seen Tech roll up three touchdowns before they were able to penetrate the goal line 1 The visitors did not do any damage so long as the Tech regulars stayed in the game Near the end of the half four line substitutions went In for the Jackets and Florida began to gain consistently for the first time Tech rode to victory on the arms of Dunlap and Warner Mlzell Early In the opening quarter Dunlap flipped a 30-yard toss to Mizell who stepped the remaining seven yards for the touchdown and In the second quarter another 25-yard bullet enabled Maree to step across the goal line and put Tech In front 13 to 0 The other touchdown came near the end of the third period and the back-field combination of Mizell and Thomason was the poison Mizell shot a 25-yard pass to Thomason who leaped Into the air snatched the ball ynd ran 30 yards through a clear field to the goal line A break helped the Tornado score Its third touchdown After Goodbread got loose for 12 yards around right end early in the third period for the first flash of the vaunted Florida
