University football game going to open and if It rain give the folks one of the best fight cards here in many a Matchmaker Livingston said last night And a review of the card supports Senor statement that is if the boys will give good efforts and there Is no reason to believe they do that In Armistice day style The 10-round main event brings together the eighth and tenth ranking middleweight Tommy Freeman and Norman (Doc) Conrad There a local fight fan who believe that right hand of Is the most dangerous weapon In the middleweight ranks However there are many of our early winter guests who know reopening of Madison Square Garden arena tonight and be seeing you there Joe Braswell Gives Typhoons Victory With Brilliant 50-Yard Dash A sweet-running wide awake elusive halfback one Mister Joe Braswell was the difference between victory and a scoreless game yesterday afternoon as the Typhoons of Ida Fisher repelled the invasion of the Ponce de Leon Cavaliers on the rain-soaked Flamingo park gridiron 7 to 0 With the exception of a scoring threat by Fisher early In the first quarter that was abruptly halted on the 17-yard line the Ponce Cavaliers led by Paul Miller outplayed and outgalned the Miami Beach forces In this one scoring threat Braswell and Dansky alternated carrying the ball with 35-yard run to the 20-yard marker featuring the drive The Cavaliers offered a stonewall defense on the 20-yard line and allowed only three yards in three plays pass failed and scoring threat ended The remainder of the first period and the second period found the ball either In midfield or In the possession of the Cavaliers who constantly offered a dangerous offense Miller Batey Kendall and Stamper carried the ball on an assortment of plays that caused the fans repeatedly to Jump to their feet as it seemed one of the ball-toters was away for a score It must be said that secondary defense was clicking and received a notable workout The third period found both teams fighting in outstanding fashion and throughout this quarter the play was on even terms with the ball within the two 40-yard lines most of the time The feature of the period was a tackle by Eddie Sands Fisher's left guard as he crashed through to toss Kendall for a 10-yard loss as the quarter ended Ponce started the last period with a punt for their fourth down the ball going to the 10-yard line Strothers picked up three and Read skirted end for 23 yards Then Ponce held and Fisher kicked to 45-yard line Miller hit the right side of his line for eight on two plays and on the next play fumbled the wet ball Murfee recovered on the 60-yard line Dansky hit the line but failed to gain The next play saw Braswell weave behind his Interference to the left side of his line pass the Ponce forwards' and as the secondary rushed In Braswell half turned and cutback to the right It seemed that he was going down as the Cavalier tacklers frantically grabbed at him but he only stumbled regained his balance and outrun his closest pursuer Miller for a 50-yard trek and a touchdown It was a beautiful play cleverly and cooly executed and it won a ball game Reiman added the extra point as he split the uprights with a placekick The remainder of the game saw Fisher offering its best defense against the Cavaliers' air attack With Miller and Stamper tossing the ball and Batey on the receiving end of two forwards Ponce advanced the ball to midfield as the game ended Henes Bobo and Thayer were outstanding the Ponce line while Ren-shaw Sands and Horowitz starred In the Fisher forward wall Ponce made 10 first downs to the Moore park gridiron to oppose the fast and heavy High team of Atlanta This Armistice day game la of the utmost Importance In Miami prep dr cles It la perhaps the most Important game on the season's schedule If the Miami boys win It means a great season If they lose but go down fighting it means met another crack flock of Invaders from the kingdom of If they go down without fighting It will be too bad But If this Miami team does go down without a desperate struggle it will be the first band of 8tlngarees that failed to put out for a big game They fought down to the last second trying to whip Lanier High even after their own fumbles had lost them the game Teams at Miami High Just quit It that kind of a school The Stlngarees will be playing a better mechanical ball club than they are this afternoon High has a fine line and a better set of backs than uimi There's no ball carrier like Hayes the firebrand of the Atlanta team In the local lineup Coach Yarborough must depend on a heavy dependable forward wall to keep tbe visitors from scoring and hope his small but speedy backs will get away enough to chalk up a touchdown or two It Is quite probable that the fans will see a spectacular offense on the part of both teams Hayes certainly will he lugging the ball much of the time for tbe visitors His runs havs been features of every Boys' High victory this fall And Coach Yarborough disappointed in not getting the power he thought was In his team has switched to an open attack with fleet backs attempting to skirt the ends and Theo Moore shooting passes to Ryder Plasman and the backs There should be no excuses If Miami loses today For the players are In good condition alert and ready to give their best They're not at all overconfident but that defeat at the hands of Lanier the first suffered In a regular season game for three years showed them that Miami teams actually can lose As a result more spirit and determination than a Miami team has shown for a long time No changes will be made In the line today but Jimmy Ellenburg will get the call to start at halfback He la a cool young man this Jimmy and get fuddled on defense Norman Pats will start at the other half as usual with Bob Hall at fullback and Theo Moore calling signals This a brilliant backfield but It Is dependable And on the bench Yarborough wiu jave Perry Chappls Bob McGahey and Holmes McKown all fast and elusive backs The line goes on like Mr brook Aside from the fact that Jim Pasquarello and Fred Copeland are coming along steadily at tackles and ready to give the regular pair Andy Albury and London Hassett a battle for positions the forward wall Is very well set Captain Ryder fully recovered from Illness and ready to go at top speed will play one end with the great Plasman opposite him Albury and Hassett will start at tackles And In the center of the line are Uncle Jawn Hestor Honest Steve McCrlmmon and Ed Merlin a most noble trio Merlin the closest student of football on the squad has played the best football of his career this year Such Is the setup for Armistice day at Moore park The high school band will be there the swanky pep club will appear In the chic new uniforms the high school colors will be all over the place youngsters will match their wits and agility with police who try to keep them from climbing the fence and In every way It will be a nlbe Armistice tabulated In tbe foUowing article may be recorded In chronological order A halfback may be playing guard a few yards gained or lost on the field may be lost entirely on this account passes may be credited to guards or even the cheer leader But the score we believe is approximately correct That score 26 to 14 with the Florida Freshmen being on the long end and the Miami Freshmen trailing And the score is an indication of the kind of a game it was Passes flew all night long some being intercepted more being good for spectacular gains Backs ran wild over the field fumbles were frequent substitutes ran on and oft the field like messenger boys and at times there was more than a quorum out where the fun was at its height The crowd which as large as It should vbe saw all this and enjoyed it hugely First the Gators outplaying Miami aU the way scored a touchdown Back came the local club with six points to match and they finished all square at the turn But In the third quarter Coach Cowell's lads swept across the field with one of the most spectacular pass attacks you ever saw scored three more touchdowns and led the parade 26 to 6 starting the last period Then came the determined young Hurricanes recovering from the wild confusion of the third quarter They ripped through the Gator defense lor a touchdown added a safety a few minutes later and were right down on the Florida goal twice more battering away for the scores which might have won the game The better ball club won the ball game all right but the defeat showed Miami fans that some of these freshmen can go places under tough handling When Florida whirled through for those three touchdowns some of the local youngsters lost all sense of what It was all about And others stayed right in there and pitched A lad well known to Miami fans Kenny Hance of the Plant team last year did a lot of mighty potent running against the Miami team last night And a big back named Chase ran and passed until he was tired It was this Chase persons who twice threw strikes from center field Into waiting arms of a lone end named Scarborough who was standing down where his presence with the ball meant touchdowns for the visitors And when looking for Miami heroes don't forget young Cecil Cook the fighting quarterback Walter Buck Miami High star last year and captain of the freshmen last night and long Jim Beusse at end for the Courtneys All night they played at top speed never faltering or making mistakes Twas a riot of running and passing right from the start Soon after the kickoff Cook broke loose for a canter of some 25 or 30 yards deep Into Florida territory Then Bullock intercepted a pass for the visitors Fullback Warren fumbled and Wilson recovered for Florida Intercepted another pass right away and got going Hance starting from 47-yard line ripped off 12 yards around right end Bullock then shot a pretty short pass over the line to Hance putting the ball on the 28-yard line Chase and Hance went to the 15-yard line on three plays and from there Hance scored on three more plays one of them a long sweep around end Then came the Hurricanes Cook passing to Beusse who was leaping high and making fine catches Cook also gained on an off-tackle play Fahmey helped a bit and soon the locals were down on the 5-yard line where the Gators rose set them back took the hall and punted A Gator fumble gave Miami the ball a moment later on the Florida 47-yard line And here came the strangest play of the game Hankln laid out on his tummy far away from the ball the old sleeper play None of the Gators In the lineup saw him but all those on the bench and great was the consternation Coach Cowell seeing the play was going to work rushed a twelfth man on the field but the play was under way by that time Cook fired the ball aeross the field to Hankln and Dick romped 63 yards for ths touchdown Then came that third-quarter scoring spree by the Gator kids They intercepted a pass on their own 35-yard line and away they Chase ripped off 11 yards Bullock passed to Rlckett on 42-yard line Hance darted through right tackle cut back like a champion and streamlined down the field to the 14-yard line before frantic Hurricanes brought him down Once more they gave Hance the ball and he went around right end on a long sweep to the 3-yard line On the second play from there Bullock went over on a quarterback sneak Chase passed to Scarborough for the extra point That was but a start Miami fumbled on her own 27-yard line Florida got the ball and Chase romped 22 yards through the disorganized Hurricanes From the 5-yard line it hard for this pesky Hance to cross for another touchdown And the last Gator Hance (that guy was everywhere) Intercepted a pass on his own 45-yard line Chase dropped back and flicked a long spiral which Scarborough pulled down on Miami's 21-yard line Again Chase dropped back This time Scarborough scampered down across the goal Hankln let the Gator star behind him and once more Chase's accurate shot nestled In his arms Then came a Miami attack that clicked in the last period Cook who held up brilliantly all night long started passing He sent a long high spiral far down the field Reggie Wilson leaped and took It eluded two tacklers and ran 15 more yards for a touchdown A few minutes later after Miami had swept down the field and lost the ball Chase- dropped back to punt found Hurricanes all over him when he momentarily fumbled and intentionally hurtled a pass to the ground The ball was declared dead where he stood giving Miami a safety and two points With 12 points needed to tie the Hurricanes swept down the field again Cook passing to Beusse who made some great catches and Fahmey Inserting a 15-yard run that did no harm But down on the Gator 4-yard line a pass play went awry and Miami lost the ball Florida kicked out and once more Cook passed this time for a 28-yard gain to Beusse Fahmey added 9 yards being tossed on the 13-yard line But here another pass was intercepted and about that time the game was over It was a hectic ball game all night long Everything could and did happen Including a little friendly fist flinging by Frank Kuder and a Gator rival Although outplayed the Miami team wasn't at all disgraced George IS MORNII Pairings Announced For Annual Competition Program of Five Events Slated The eleventh annual bird dog field trials and
