been actively considering for some time past the athletic policy of the university "The board met tonight with the special committee of the Alumni Association and fully discussed with them these policies The board of control and the president of the university will at a very early date come to a decision on these matters and will most actively continue the study of such policies until some solution is reached and publicly announced "The board appreciates very much the helpful suggestions of this alumni committee and the spirit in which they were This was the first time the control board officially consulted the alumni organization on athletics The committee was appointed by the association in 1934 and directed to the study of the situation At the time of the home-coming game in October at Gainesville the Alumni Association further directed the committee to make recommendations concerning the coaching staff on or before January 1 1936 This was given as the reason for the committee appearing before the board of control officials said Many alumni and followers of Florida have blamed the present allalumni coaching staff headed by Dennis (Dutch) Stanley for the poor prediction Vanderbilt University decided yesterday not to accept the invitation account of final examinations at the Then the committee turned to Auburn which was on the eligible list but tihe officials of the Alabama school seem to think we are ready to pay for another one of those light heavyweight titles without assurance of delivery as they are demanding a $10000 guarantee In the first place the committee w'ill not make such a guarantee and in the second place they would not give such a guarantee to Auburn because they have played here once and their drawing power again would be a dubious factor With an aching head Keith Phillips chairman of the commfttee retired to his Coral Gables home announcing that negotiations would be continued with North Carolina and Duke Universities as well as Mississippi University Any one of these teams would make a great opponent for Catholic especially North Carolina or Duke as these latter two would have a great drawing power The experience being gained this year undoubtedly will find the Orange Bowl committee yoing into action next year many weeks ahead of their 1935 start The lineup of Rose Orange Cotton Sugar and the other bowls make it a matter these days which cannot be a last-minute campaign If North Carolina Duke or Mississippi refuse the Invitation today or tomorrow draft the University of Miami In this writers opinion it would be a much better competition and we would be giving the $3000 to $5000 guarantee to our own Institution which needs it Also it is a fighting ball club as their last four victories have shown it
