clubhouse has enabled Gables Racing Association officials to add nine new boxes and bring the total up to 55 at Tropical Park which opens the Florida season here on Monday December 16 Ticket Chief Lon Ditmus reports that the box subscriptions have been coming in earlier and in greater number than in previous seasons Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt leadin' owner of America and Hirsch Jacobs leading American trainer have been allotted boxes and the list Includes many of the most prominent names in the sport Six new boxes have been Installed at the foot of the grandstand opposite the finish line where the old press box was located Three others have been built in front of the new press stand The new press stand will accommodate 30 writers and telegraphers with its double row of benches It is an open box like those at Hialeah and Narragansett Parks but will have the added convenience of an awning on the top and sides in case of inclement weather The horse colony passed the 1000 mark when 410 were checked at Tropical and 678 at Hialeah Park Many of the horses now at Hialeah will be shipped over to Tropical before the latter's meeting to stalls reserved for them there Of the total will go over the quarter mile course and two are scheduled over the longer five-sixteenths-mlle route Going to the post tonight in the feature eighth race over the five-sixteenth-mile course will be Hank Se-quah King Burner Modernistic Silver Event Runyon's Robin Shasta Meadows Mr Zilch and Town Tavern Robin the fawn son of the imported Robin's River out of Lady Runyon will probably be the choice of the form players due to hia great race on Thursday night when he set a new season mark of 24 3-5 seconds for the quarter-mile trek His toughest competition figures to come from Swisher's King Burner which has won two out of three starts and finished second once Mr Zilch winner of the Inagural also will be a strong contender in the race as will Modernistic Impressive winner of the eighth made by anglers fishing in the Gulf Stream Ordinarily they draw forth derogatory comment But now and then when one appears comprising six or seven sailfish there is plenty of comment that is not only derogatory but that fairly scorches On the other hand if you fail to publish it the anglers who made the catch their aunts and uncles the rest of their relatives and a goodly portion of their friends game was tied at 7 to 7 The fumbling started in a big way at this Juncture to throttle any serious offensive threat However with the aid of a 15-yard penalty Oglethorpe's 27 but here Borman intercepted Ott's aerial as the half ended with the ball on the 20 Masterson of Miami kicked off as the third quarter started with Sullivan returning to his 34 Clyburne picked up 2 and then Sullivan fumbled Masterson recovering on Oglethorpe's 36 It was the start of another touchdown march and typical of the Miamians who have started many a scoring drive from a recovered fumble this season Gostowski gained 9 and then lost a yard but Boney wiggled crashed and went spinning through left tackle for first down on the 20 Gostowski and Petrowski added 8 but an offside penalty set them back Petrowski came back 8 around left end and then as Boney took the ball the Petrels were offside With the ball on the 1-yard line Boney went through right tackle easily for the touchdown and Petrowski again split the uprights with a p)ace-kick as Miami led 14 to 7 Again as Masterson kicked off Faulkner fumbled on the first play with Wolcuff recovering on 32 Petrowski and Gostowski picked up 7 yards each to the 18 and a shovel pass over the line Ott to Gostowski was good for another 7 Boney hit center for 6 and the second straight first down on the 6-yard stripe As Ott advanced on the line Miami was offside He then gained 2 and Gostowski 6 With the bail on the 3 Boney again drove through decisively for the touchdown to end a 32-yard drive toe continued to click and it was Miami 21 to Oglethorpe's 7 As the offensive started again a bad pass from the center to Wade found Kalix recovering on the 47 Both lines held as a pair of punts were registered Borman's 70-yard boot placing the ball on Miami's 26 as the period ended The last session was a continuance of the punting and fumbling Dicker recovering one of the mlscues on their 29 but Boney's fumble two plays later was recovered by Oglethorpe on their 24 Puryear made 11 yards at right end but on the next play Wade fumbled and again Dicker who was every place throughout the evening recovered on the 41 Both offensives bogged down as the lines stiffened and it was not until near the end that the visitors tallied their final score Glogowski substituting for Wolcuff had hts punt partially blocked and Copeland downed the ball on 38 Here started a 62-yard scoring march as two passes Puryear to Faulkner clicked one for 17 yards and the rsc-ond good for 26 yards to 21 A triple reverse with Leslie going to Miami's 11 for another first down was followed by great run then a fumble which Freeman recovered to stumble across the few remaining yards Copeland's attempted place-kick missed and the scoring was over with Miami 21 and Oglethorpe 13 The game ended six plays later as Puryear again clicked with his shovel pass to Sullivan for 13 yards the final whistle finding the ball in the possession on their own 33 Miami had 11 first downs to Oglethorpe's 5 and 20 yards in penalties to 40 for the Fetrels Except for too many fumbles it was a fitting close for the Hurricanes who started slow but came back to complete a schedule of three defeats and five victories four of the wins in a row It is hats off to the Hurricanes and their new coaches Irl Tubbs and Pat Boland and things look great on the 1936 football
