football games will be played again at Yankee Stadium Saturday afternoon and while you can find few true believers in chances of stopping Notre Dame there will be the full complement of 75000 or more addicts in the triple-tiered stands always that way for Army and Notre Dame even when there appears to be no adequate reason for the customers to single out this game above all others This season for instance Army has been beaten bv Yale and tied Columbia only in the last two minutes in its major games and looked bad even in winning its openers from Furman and Centre Notre Dame on the other hand has won successive victories over five major rivals Purdue Georgia Tech Southern Methodist Navy and Carnegie Tech In addition Army beaten the Irish since 1931 Yet even on that basis the game twenty-sixth of a series that started in 1913 with Gus Dorais and Knute Rockne combining to shock West Point with their passes was a sellout far in advance The two schools disposed of all their tickets two weeks ago and the few that got into hands already are bringing $660 and $880 for a surface value of $440 and should be worth even more tomorrow Revives Interest In the last few days though a few factors have arisen to make this renewal of a truly rivalry far more attractive Notre Dame for one thing came out of its one-point defeat of Carnegie Tech with three of its frontline operatives considerably below their physical par and a number of others showing bumps and bruises Bill Kerr regular right end who scored the touchdowns that beat Carnegie the last two years and Tackle Tom Gallagher are on the shelf and Tad Harvey the other tackle may have to stay there with them Meanwhile Army is surprisingly confident that its lineup for game will be the strongest had on the field this fall Six sophomores or yearlings in West Point terminology will be in there three in the backfield (Jere Mau-pin Johnny Hatch and Bob Evans) and three in the line (Guards Ra AmBMkifi t6) Murphy and Jim Rooney and Tackle Ted Michel) The West Point spirit also Is something exceptional this week There has been the usual display of Notre banners all over the Military Academy but there has been unuusual fervor among the members of the Cadet corps and unusual drive in the football practice sessions One thing said to back up this drive is the feeling that New York although virtually their his superiors Hunt gained his as the result of one of his many brushes with the law Chicago police saw him strolling along one sunny day carrying a big golf bag with hardly the required number of cluhs therein Knowing his sporting yen was con find strictly to the ponies they looked in the golf bag There was a shotgun a short one Sam insisted he was going hunt ing The pheasant season was and he had a license so he got awjfK with it It set something of an un derworld vogue Greater Miami authorities have announced they will see to it that Capone lives up to the letter of the law regarding ex-convicts when he returns He must register as a convicted felon with both the county and Miami Beach and be fingerprinted and in each place Can Be Picked Up If he consorts writh known criminals a class into which most of his pals fall he can be picked up When Capone first came to Florida to take up his Palm Island estate authorities were eloquent as to what they were going to do about it With an extensive legal staff however Capone secured injunctions which effectively tied the hands of police all along the line Attorneys Vincent Giblin and Fritz Gordon who represented Capone in most of the Miami cases later sued for a $50000 fee no part of which they said had been paid The suit was settled out of court Capone's wife and Al jr are now on the west coast presumably to greet the former told hospital attaches he was riding west on the county causeway Friday night-when a pedestrian chasing a hat ran into his machine and threw him to the pavement Witnesses said the pedestrian recovered his hat and walked from the accident scene The motorcycle was badly wrecked TtELL FOR FIVE DAYS this most unusual weather has hung around the Miami area apparently unable to make up its mind as to just what to do One minute the clouds break away and patches of blue (not quite big enough to make a Dutchman a pair of pants) show up The happy face of Old Sol smiles upon the drenched sands for a short space of time then it clabbers up again and Jupe Pluvius continues to geto-in bis innings Weatherman Carson informs us that this condition is due to an unsettled weather spot in the Caribbean which has stood motionless for several days hidebound to the same locality by a high-pressure area extending generally over the Eastern half of the United States That is quite interesting but it sure help the angling situation any Nor does it assist us in answering numerous telephone and personal calls as to when the falling weather will quit and where to go fishing if and when it does quit So We Stick Our Neck Out In such circumstances it appears nothing is left for us to do but stick our neck out and give an opinion of our own Perhaps it is ishful thinking but we do believe that today and Sunday will see a let-up in the blustery and rainy weather that the sun will shine again and that all will be well with the piscatorial world In fact it will be better than well for if the weather settles' the fishing will show considerable improvement For one thing the kingfish will be coming into the pier waters nice big plump ones that give you a battle before ou land them and furnish a fine meal after you cook them Along with the kingfish there will be plenty of mackerel some bluefish a scattering of pom-pano snapper jack and margate Enough of a variety to satisfy the most ardent angler Down In the Florida Keys The keys fishing should be better than usual with the possible exception of bonefish However if the waters calm down and the eather warms up the bonefishing ill be good Fishing from the bridges and especially the Seven' Mile bridge will be worthwhile for snook snapper grouper and jew-fish with an occasional barracuda to add to the excitement The best bet down that wav however will be the Bay of Florida fishing Here amongst the mangrove islets you'll find the snapper more than willing to strike a plug and along with the snapper there'll he some chiro grouper pag and a few tarpon And speaking of tarpon there have been some big ones roaming the waters beneath the bridge over channel two In Biscayne Bay The fishing in Biscayne bay has shown steady gain ever since the non-seining no-fish-trap law went Into effect The only difficulty anglers now experience in getting £iod catches is their lack of knowl- Bama Odds-On Choice Over Kentucky Today Birmingham Ala Nov 3 (JP) Alabama's Crimson Tide was a top-heavy favorite Friday to end unbeaten and untied record of the 1939 season in their clash at Legion Field here Saturday afternoon Most of the curbstone made the Tide a 2-to-l choice to win its seventeenth victory from Kentucky in as many years Kentucky won its first and only game from Alabama in 1922 The two teams will arrive Saturday morning Advance sales indicate a crowd of 13000 or more edge of where the fish are So far as the bluefish and mackerel are concerned they may be either in or out of the bay However a good trolling in the south bay areas should result in a catch of both blues and mackerel Inside and outside at haulover most times is a good bet and the fish also tend to hang out in the waters adjacent to the Indian Creek Golf club It takes trolling to get them up and fishing from the bank is not very productive As for a trolling lure we would say that a combination of white feather minnow and porkrind is just about the best with drone or metalure spoons pushing them hard Close By Spots One of the best spots is where the Miami river empties into the bay The fish like the conditions there especially the big snook If you can contrive to get on the grounds about sun-up or at dusk you can plug-cast yourself into a fine catch of fish Along with the snook are big jack and some tarpon while close to the some mighty big jewfish have been taken Try that water around Burlingame island just off the river mouth Then there's a good piscatorial bet just north of the Venetian causeway in the channel and on into the grass beds skiffing toward the women's club Snapper snook anSneckled salt water trout are what jool catch here if you happen to hit st right and there are plenty of cHiro of small size strike jrour plug 5
