emblematic of the 1932 National A A IL automobile race driving championship Although he finished only second in the 150-mile classic at Oakland Speedway yesterday the final national championship race of the year his previous point standing was sufficient to give him the title over William "Wild Bill' Cummings of Indianapolis who piloted his whining steel Thoroughbred to first place Ernie Triplett Los Angeles driving his usual steady race followed Carey across the finish line while Maurie Rose Dayton Ohio was fourth Wilbur Shaw of Indianapolis fifth and Al Gordon Los Angeles sixth None of these however figured in the national championship their total points being insufficient to put them among the leaders Fred Frame another Los Angeles pilot finished second in the final capitulation although he did not finish in yesterday's race Frame winner of the 500-mile Memorial Day classic at Indianapolis this year had amassed a total of 710 points previous to the final race Howdy Wilcox also of Indianapolis found himself in the same position as Frame He did not finish yesterday but his 610 points garnered previously in various races throughout the country gave him third place Russ Snowberger of Philadelphia who did not drive here had a point total for the year of 440 which gave him fourth place while Cummings whose victory yesterday gave him 180 points to add to his previous 250 finished
