the federal authorities had agreed to turn over prosecution of Selby to Modoc County The maximum penalty under federal law is ten years while Selby can be sentenced to hang if convicted by the state Indian Trackers Used Meanwhile an intensive search for Srlby was continued concentrated in the Modoc lava beds where seventy-five years ago American troops and Indians waged incessant warfare To-day
