The Boyal Vancouver Yacht Club's fleet of nearly two hundred vessels, of all classes, keeps the port of Vancouver pretty well represented on nea.y every pase of the 1914 edition of Lloyd's Register of Canadian and American yachts, the new Issue of which has Jllst reee.ive.1 liv lni.nl yachtsmen. The publication of Lloyd's Register of American Yachts for 1914 calls to mind the Interesting fact that it Is Just forty yeufs since the first attempt was made to establish an annual record of this kind in America. The American Yacht List, as the little book was called, was "published with the official sanction and under the patron nce of the New York Yacht Club," hy the late Nella Olsen, thou steward and for many y. ars after superintendent of the club. It was hardly more than a pamphlet, 5 x7 inches, with but 145 pnpes and five rather crude color plates of club burgees.

TliouRh "ke Lloyd's (Register today. It included Canada with the United States, the total number of clubs listed was but 38, Including; the New York Canoe Club and two model yacht The total number of yachts listed was 607, of which 21 were entered as "screw steamers." though most of these were very stnall launches. A typical steam yacht of the day was the lav Tream, built In 1871 for the late William H. Aspinwall. a wooden craft of 70 tons, 115 feet over all; feet l.w.l.; 19 feet and 7 feet depth of hold; no draft and no particulars of the engine be ir.ir given.

All the yachts were of wood with a slmtie notable exception, the Iron cutter Vindex. designed by Mr. A. Another notable new yacht Is the schooner Katoura, owned by Robert E.

The changes of this year are: first, the passing of many wooden yachts of the Burgess era; second, the addition of new cruislns yachts of larKe size propelled by toline engines; and third, the very number of small, ralsed deck cruisers, the family launch, that Is meeting with such well deserved popularity on inland as well as coastal waters. In order to give space for the very full particulars of both hulls and engines, which are demanded by yachtsmen; at the same time a change has been made to a thinner paper of eqiinl quality In order tn keep the volume within reasonable limit of size ami weight. The real race was for the place, which was secured by Ethelburg II by a nose from The Feller, who was a nose in front of Wap, while the latter boat Feilna a head. The four horses went pa 'it the post almost together. Easter boy had little trouble capturing the two year old race with Belco lore second and Prospero's Baby third.

Auntie Curl gave the talent an upset In the fourth race when she beat a field of sprinters in ''a. winning unextended at the end. Aunt Elsie's speed availed her little yesterday for he could never get within striking distance of the leader at any stage. Zulu finished second, with Aunt Elsie third. Ruvoco captured the feature event of the day at seven furlongs In a driving finish with Bertadano, with Francis third.

Ruvooo was installed a top heavy choice and coming from beh'nd when called upon, had sufficient left to etall off Bertadano' challenge at the finish. Zenotek ran a game race In the alxth event to beat Hardy a nose at tho end.
