throughout the auditorium An orchestra pit capable of accomodating 20 musicians and the console controlling the organ Is in front of the stage The Illumination of the auditorium provides for a number of color effects and Is accomplished by means of concealed lights behlng the cove cornices and by Indirect lighting from the three large chandeliers suspended from the central spaces of the ceiling all the lighting being controlled by dimmers Behind the stage are dressing rooms designed to care for any kind of theatrical requirement Footlights and spotlights are provided A large projecting room equipped with the latest type motlograph projecting machines Is another feature of the theater It is located on the second floor between the two lounge rooms Iced drinking water is supplied to patrons from fountains at either end of the foyer and loggia A check room and office also are located In the foyer Last to be mentioned but first in Importance from the standpoint of the comfort of patrons of the new theater is the modern cooling and ventilating system which Is so designed that pure fresh air at any desired temperature can be circulated and maintained at a constant rate of change The 'air enters the auditorium through several large celling grilles and is drawn out through mushroom-shaped ventilators placed under the seats By this system Installed at an expense of many thousands of dollars absolute comfort for patrone under outside weather conditions le assured Albert Peacock of Miami was the contractor for the Coconut Grove Theater building which was designed and supervised by Klehnel Elilott architects who also have designed many other structures and residences in this section King former manager of the Flagler Theater one of the newer units in the Paramount Miami chain Fotosho The Coconut Grove Theater located In the main highway at Mary street was leased from the owners and builders the Thomas-Pieree Holding Company of Coconut Grove by Paramount Enterprises Inc several months ago and according to Harry A Leach general manager the theater will be operated as a run motion picture house featurnlng Famous Players Iasky Corporation Paramount productions exclusively The opening picture Is of Satan" a I Griffith production which had a long and successful run on Uroadway Adolph Menjou who plays the part of Satan In this film portrays not the familiar stage Faust of red horns and pitchfork but a modern mystic a man of immense power magnetic personality and brooding nature Other members of the cast are lllcardo Cortex Carol Dempster Iya de Puttl Ivan pebe-deff Marcia Harris and Lawrence The story Is a modern epic of love temptation and regeneration stupendously conceived and produced by D- Griffith from the book by Marie Correlll that has been read by millions "Sorrows of Satan" will be shown at the Coconut Grove Theater on Sunday and Monday following the opening tonight at 8 when there will be two shows On Tuesday and Wednesday of next week the Coconut Grove Theater will present Lillian Gish In "The Scarlet Letter" a Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer production Thursday Friday and Satur- day Mae Murray starring in "Valencia" will be the attraction Other equally outstanding films have been scheduled for weeks ahead It Is announced The dedication address at the Coconut Grove Theater will be dellveredl by Rev Kuykendall It will be preceded and followed by a special musical program featured by selections on the Wurlltxer organ with Miss Celia Santon at the Instrument and by the Arnold Johnson orchestra which has been engaged as
