MOST IMPORTANT NEWSPAPER SUNDAY MORNING DECEMBER 1 8 1 9 2 7 MILLS APS SMOTHERS THOSE HURRICANES 31-0 WHO LIKE FISHIN' AND WHERE CAN YOU HOOK FINER CATCHES THAN THESE? HOLLYWOOD PLAYS TIE II 23 ST' BiFi A' OK frS iso'' MILLSAPS TRItilFH OVER Hi 31 TO 0 Neither Team Able To Score In Closing Prep Battle On Miami Field Gesu High and Hollywood battled for four long periods with neither able to push over a counter yesterday afternoon at Miaifii field Each team made several threats to score but a fumble or some mis-play usually halted the activities teams resorted to passing and completed several long heaves Shutts Hollywood quarter and Dom-nick of Gesu made a few nice passes despite the slippery ball and footing Many times a runner would get loose only to slip and fall down when trying to reverse his field or cut back It seemed that the visitors would score once in the second quarter when Cook got loose on a hidden ball trick carrying the ball to the 12-yard line Four plays took the pigskin to the 3-yard mark where it went over to Gesu on downs The Catholics ran the ball out and punted out of danger The Hollywood ends were playing wide awake football and kept their eyes ORen recowering three fumbled punts McNichol Hollywood fullback was the most consistent gainer of the day ploughing through the Gesu line for gains many times and then again the Catholics would hit the runner far behind the line of scrimmage Pettigrew also played well as did Joe Domnick Ryan Kirin Aubry Curcle and one or two others A JUfcr '1 As LU'i X'l i Y7 Jf A- BILL Jh vur 'I A Wjft i Fi we Mississippi Eleven Led By Cap tain Crawford Crushes Hurricanes Iy JACK (ELI Sporti Writer lor hi Herald Too many Jdlllsaps and not enough Hurricanes spoiled what we all were hoping would be a victorious triumph on the gridiron out' at the university stadium yesterday afternoon Led by Captain Crawford who Insisted on running where Hurricanes weren't all afternoon those visitors from Mississippi clicked off 31 points while Miami was falling to break' into the scoring colutnn a sad afternoon mates for It cost the Miami team a lot As this Is written It appears that Bill Kimbrough the best lineman on the Miami squad has a fractured leg and will not be ahje to play again this year And the loss of Kimbrough and Solle had Us effect In the last half for it was then that the visitors chalked up all but six of those 31 points For two periods It was a cording good football game And even in the last half it was a nice exhibition if you happened to like to see Crawford loping and twisting through the Miami line for long gains But it Was in the first half that everything happened that the Hurricanes In the first place Miami handed Mill saps the first touchdown Well not be certain about this but It looked like "WIgnall was tossing the ball to Carbonneau Anyway It was like this Miami had the ball on the Millsaps 30-yard line and things looked fine The ball was snapped by Kimbrough and a Miami lad caught it The play was one of those things where one back tosses the ball to another the two not more than six feet apart Just about this time big lumbering Boswell Millsaps' tackle crashed through the Miami line Now Boswell had no thoughts of fame He merely broke through because that was his duty But just as he got through WIgnall was tossing the ball to Carbonneau end Boswell Just as he got past the Miami line suddenly found a football which was intended for a Miami player nestling in his arms "How cum?" he quoth for ordinarily a tackle get hold of a bootball twice in his career However Boswell was headed for the Miami goal line and the easiest thing to do was to keep going He did it too There was no Hurricanes in his way and the Millsaps boys seeing the turn of events cut down all would-be tacklers That touchdown hurt the Hurricanes a lot It took the heart out of i hem And added to this was Solie's Apanishment from the game along with Feevy of Millsaps when they Started a little boxing match and the injury to Kimbrough Just before the half ended The second halt was Just too bad Crawford that mighty runnerof the opposition had some of the most beautiful interference a man could ask for And even when he got out all by himself he seemed right able to take care of the situation The half was not started five minutes before Millsaps had a score Crawford caught a Courtney punt and came back 15 yards to the 40-yard line On the next play Crawford clicked off 15 yards through left tackle Wright hit the line for seven and '-on the' next play Crawford dashed through his usual hole and was stopped only by the fence around the north end of the ball park That was a sample of what was happening the remainder of the after- noon Crawford Bilbo Welch Kutrs all of 'em wore gaining and craw-ford was running as as all the rest put together and a lot farther The capn sure did eat space Occa stonally there was a pass- and other players went over for touchdowns but the affair generally was a march down the field with a touchdown resulting As for the Hurricanes the boys slumped badly in that last half That wonderful player' Courtney was in there as usual making plenty of tackles passing accurately to hi mates kicking the best he has this season and running as well as any man could with the support he was getting Ashman as usual was busy and the visitors soon learned not to try plays around him Hauser played well at times- but was erratic at other times Llndstrom was sure as usual but did not rise to the heights necessary to play winning football And the boys after the loss of Solle and Kimbrough tackled badly and lost opportunities to stoy their rivals without gains For- the Visitors Blunt at end Brooks at tackle and McManus at center played fin football The game as one looks back was a rout But little things often cause big scores and that first gift touchdown and the loss of Kimbrough in our opinion ruined a Miami team which might have won a game In the second half is When tiler talk of fishing in winter no place In America can compare with Florida Here are three eatcheaof the paat
