CASEY I The Bee's Special Service) MARYSVILLE (Yuba Co) May Without leaving hla Beat Judge Me-Daniel lest evening rendered hie de-tslon In the caee of Watt lloese va Martin Casey in favor of the defendant overwhelmingly The Court not only denied Reese the $2000 he ought to recover from Casey but he cored Reee roundly denounlng him gi rogue a bunco men and an unprincipled sharper He told Reese that he felt like ordering him Into the custody of the Sheriff ae he believed a crime had been committed that a bunco game had been put up to rob Casey of $2000 Judge McDaniel Instructed District Attorney Oreely to investigate the matter thoroughly and if he finds enough evidence to lay the caee before the Grand Jury which body will meet shortly on other business In giving his decision Judge McDaniel pointed to the unreasonableness of Ureses scheme to obtain the money from Casey and the improbability of Casey concocting any such plan as the plaintiff hinted at to defraud him of the money One of the weak points in Reese's case was dwelt on by the Court It was the bit of testimony by Reese to the effect that a few minutes before signing the lease which Casey gave him on the line of cribs at the bottom of the litigation he handed Casey $100 and the opposite statement by Reese a few minutes later when questioned ae to why he did not produce a deposit on the deal that he dhl not have any money to do so Several witnesses were produced by Casey yesterday to prove that Reeae waa unable to meet hie bills Just prior to and following December 24th the date on which he held he guv Casey $2000 as security fur the rental on the cribs On the other hand Reese Introduced witnesses who testified that Caey told them since the purported handlnr of the $2000 to Casey that he had never signed any puper for Reese It ta predicted by those who Incline to tho belief that Reese did pay the money to Casey that the end is not yet Hptllman who testified that he had $2600 of Reese's money In his safe and that he gave Reese $2000 of that sum on the evening Rese eays he gave the money to Casey In the presence of Mrs Casey and Kred A Foster proposes to trace the money back to the aloon In Pan Frantcsco where Reeae claims he came Into possession of it In giving judgment for Casey Judge McDaniel did not refer to the point made by Casey's attorneys that Reae oould not recover the money CAUSES CONJECTURE ClUe Special Service) MARYSVILLE (Yuba Co) May No small amount of curiosity hag been occasioned here Regarding the visit recently of a land attorney who durlug his stay approached the owners of the land adjoining and adjacent to the Browns Valley grade from Marysville to the foothills with hints at taking an option on the holdings The law calls taken in connection with several mining locations that have been quietly made of late ae far down the Yuba River ae Eliza Bend have served to add to the conjectures of those acquainted with the prospects In the minds of the majority of those interested directly and indirectly the movement Is in the interest of a big mining scheme not far removed from the drodger piocess Others think they see in it a change of plans on the part of
