From an economic standpoint, this family is far from promising and Spurry is the only genus which has been found of use as a forage plant. Animals refuse this until they get used to it, and' then seem to like it. The plant is highly valued for sheep and cow pastures on the sandy heath lands of Holland and Belgium. It is thought to give a superior flavor to butter and to the flesh of sheep. Spurry has been tested on a large scale on the pine ban ens of northern Michigan and is very highly recommended for that the leaves but puncture the growing tip causing the plant to wither ana soon die.
