likeanything but a team with experience and offensive worries here Saturday night The Keydets slight underdogs completely dominated George Washington and opened their 62 season with a 22-6 Southern Conference victory at Gty Stadium A Jaycee Bowl crowd estimated at 6500 saw VMI spotlight its offense in the first half and then turn to its defensive chores in he second 30 minutes The Colonials touted as a SC dark-horse candidate never did escape its own territory in the last half Two TD Passes A pair of touchdown passes one a seven-yard strike from Butch'Nunally to sophomore Joe Bush and the other a three-yard affair from Mark Mulrooney to Ken Reeder and an 86-yard return of a kick-off by Andy Tucker set the Keydets in motion to the 50th win recorded since John McKenna took over the Richmond Spiders used an offense which started with a bang sputtered almost out of sight and finished in high gear to defeat East Carolina College at City Stadium last night 27-26 The Spiders jumped off to a 13-0 lead in the first quarter fell behind 26-13 with 15 seconds gone in the third quarter and came on with the last two scores of the contest to pull out the victory Rideout's Faming The passing of Mel Rideout and the running of five fleet halfbacks who shuffled in and out of the game with every series of downs gave the Spiders their offensive punch Trailing 26-20 late in the third period the Spiders marched 38 yards in seven plays with third string halfback Ken Wil bourne going over for the winning score from the three yard line The final tally came with five seconds gone in the last quarter Rideout's perfect placement provided the winning margin as defense was able to stall the Pirates fourth quarter scoring bid at their own 34 late in the final period Richmond scored twice in the first period to start the contest in rout fashion The first score came on a 70-yard drive following the opening kickoff The running of halfbacks Ken Stoudt and Brent Vann and a
