word of the railorads The crisis in the situation is expected at noon tomorrow when the president has an appointment to meet the Brotherhood leaders Macon Ga August 25 Captain Edgar Sprt'tlin of company fifth legiment Georgia National Guard was shot and killed in his tent here today by Mrs II Adams of Atlanta Captain Spratlin's home was also at Atlanta Mrs Adams it is said came here from Atlanta today and went to Spratlin's tent and identified him in his uniform She is said to have exclaimed "You have ruined my home" and fired at the oilicer twice with a thirty eight calibre revolver The first bullet entered the man's neck severing the jugular vein The second entered his mouth He was killed almost instantly Mrs Adams who has a husband and three children in Atlanta was arrested and placed in jail on a charge Lynn Haven Aug 25 The board of county commissioners of Bay county has issued a proclamation calling for an election on September 19 to vote on a bond issue of $375000 to be expended on building a system of good roads throughout the county The outline as established by the government egineer and the commissioners provides for the cement road from the city dock to St Andrews a hard surface gravel road from Lynn Haven to conneect with the main county road from Panama City north to the county line and a hard surface road to connect with the Panama City gravel road about four miles south at the railroad The cement road may be run on any street the city decides Statement That Major Ladue is to Give the Galoosahatchee Attention Street improvement bonds bearing five percent interest and averaging five years before maturity sold last night on a basis of four and three quarters to Baker Watts Company of Baltimore for $225417 and accrued interest a premium of $2417 The face value of the bonds was $253000 This is said to be the best sale of bonds so far as the amount paid is concerned that the city has ever made and was a source of gratification to Fnance appeared to be very narrow and to lack intensity both when between Miami and Nassau and between Miami and Palm the wind at about one o'clock yesterday afternoon blowing at the rate of seven miles in Miami and twelve miles an hour at Palm Beach Somewhat later the wind attained a velocity of forty miles an hour in Miami' as the southern edge of the disturbance passed over the city The storm was accompanied by a heavy rainfall the greatest since October 1915 Six inches of rain fell during the afternoon according to the records of the Miami weather bureau station The blowing rain made it difficult for many residents to keep their homes dry and various expedients were resorted to to prevent water from coming in at windows and beneath doors Some roofs leaked and families spent several uncomfortable hours Fruit was injured tc some extent in the vicinity of Miami the damage being particularly heavy to alligator pears which are now ripe and being shipped Damage to Wires Telephone and electric light wires in some vicinities were put out cf commission by falling lirnbs adding to the inconvenience from the heavy rainfall East of avenue and north of Twelfth street lines were out of commission because of the moving of Dr Jackson's home from its former site at the intersection of Twelfth street and avenae it being necessary for the contractor to temporarily remove two or three poles and the wires leading zo houses in that vicinity As a result some sections of the city had no electric lights last night An attempt to get in touch with Palm Beach to ascertain if any damage was done there resulted in failure so far as the teleDhcne lines were concerned as these lines were out of order owing to the storm Telegraph lines were working however Flooded the Streets In the downtown section of Miami the streets were flooded and wrfer at some of the low places noticeably at avenue and Twelfth street came up to the doors standing several inches deep on the sidewalks Wood block
