For He said: that are whole need not a physician but they that are sick" I long for the day to come when in the churches of Miami in union with His command to preach the Gospel will be observed command to heal the sick And this please understand does not mean that we are ont to use earthly remedies and agencies or that idly we are to cease from the effort of caring for our bodies or neglect the laws of health Harry Emerson Fosdick in his wonderful little book Meaning of says: plain reason for our denied requests is that we continually try to make prayer a substitue for intelligence and work We have already seen that there are three chief ways in which men cooperate with God: thinking working and praying Now no one of these three can ever take the place of And a minister of large experience in this work said: physician is of God but the priest is of God as well and physician and priest blessed of God as channels for the material and spiritual blessings of God to both the form and another ere apparently after Whatever the purpose or reason that has swayed them in a churchly direction to worship to pray to learn of will for man even if it be only to hear the excellent music so generously provided by Miami churches one feels that it must be pleasing to God to see them there yet sometimes one wonders a little But my thoughts turn to an old church in a city far north of here where on a certain weekday morning a very different assemblage of people from those which throng the Miami churches on Sunday quietly find places and kneel in earnest prayer Here are the old and the very young the well to do and the very poor white folk and a sprinkling of colored (One tall slqder blind colored woman I recall with the serene uplifted countenance of a saint so gentle so courteous always so grateful for the assistance it Is a privilege to give) But all are moved by a common impulse there is a bond that links them in warm sympathy there Is a conspicious intensity of purpose that stirs imagination a vibrating quality in the atmosphere that thrills one tvith tender pity and awed anticipation All these people are in need in sore need Many of them can truly say: hope is stayed on Thee for earthly means have failed to help them They are sick crippled blind deaf troubled in mind body and spirit Perhaps they have sinned some are stricken with grief many have come to pray for absent loved ones who are ill It matters not They have come to House where they are so abundantly welcome to pray each for his own great need and each for the' needs of ali who are there They have come moreover so that God's appointed servant may lay his hinds on each one and in the name of power of Christ pray that he may be purged of his sin that he may be restored te physical and spiritual health that he may be comforted in his sorrow Even so Christ commanded His ministers and gave them power to heal the sick There is a prayer for ail whose names have been sent in a prayer of thanksgiving for those who have requested it a brief helpful address Then to the low music of the organ and assisted and directed by women garbed as nurses the pathetic procession wends its way to the Communion rail for the individual prayer and the blessing And having lifted up their hearts unto the Lord they return to their seats and out into the morning sunshine with such renewed hope and trust and confidence as their shining eyes often indicate and with a sense of revelation of divine mystery of healing grace in the amazing presence of which their timid souls tremble But the Saviour has been with them that they realize and there is an understanding between Him and them which grows and grows as they patiently persistently and with undaunted faith seek His loving fellowship ye shall seek me and find me when ye shall search for me with all your heart Our usual church services are beauti PEACOCK-RICE CO (INC) BUILDING MATERIAL HARDWARE SASH AND DOORS COCONUT GROVE FLA Although there was plenty of sidewalk space along North Miami avenue between Flagler and First streets yesterday morning it was noticed that a number of women pedestrians made a hasty leap to the curb and stepped out into the street where they preferred to pursue to their journey To see one woman step off the sidewalk would hardly be noticeable but when other pedestrians saw not only one woman but five or six not all of whom were walking along together step into the gutter almost simultaneously it was a matter to be looked into and men who saw what was happening immediately began to register wide wide grins A large rat scurrying down the center of the sidewalk was clearing feminine traffic as neatly as a fire truck hurrying to answer an alarm shoves automobiles to the side of the street The rat scampered down a storm sewer at the corner and the sidewalk was again safe for women pedestrians Down the greatest picture since Birth of a Hippodrome today Advertisement of the finest land in
