by Police Justice Clements yesterday when Lundie testified that the shooting was accidental The victim was shot in the left arm but not injured seriously Lundie said that the pistol discharged when the woman opened a drawer to look for keys She was arrested after the shooting but was released on bail Pending the hearing The shooting occurred at residence on Bolllngbrook Street according to Police Elliott Backs Lesion Drive Over Pensions Glenn Elliott adjutant of the Virginia Department of the American Legion yesterday stoutly defended as humane and right the act of the recent State Legion convention in moving to make government pensions available to thf World War veterans now totally disabled by venereal diseases The convention suggested by resolution that the national convention at Los Angeles support a bill which would abolish the as a bar to the receipt of pensions by those men who gave full military duty and were discharged honorably The resolution was adopted unanimously at the Charlottesville convention after reading by Roby Thompson of Abingdon past department commander and resolutions committee chairman Adjutant Elliott taking cognizance of editorial criticism said the matter was considered fully by the committee before it was presented on the last convention day when more posts were represented than on any other convention day The resolution asserted that Spanish-American War veterans disabled by venereal diseases receive pensions and asked that World War veterans receive the same Mr Elliott who served In the medical corps at Fort Thomas Ky at Camp Crane at Allentown Pa and in overseas hospitals at Brest and LeMans said it was his firm belief that many men who believed themselves cured before enlistment suffered recurrence of diseases
