FAN FARE By Ditren Five Dragons Kicked Off Squad by Baillio Mml.An)n«£l..-.l. On the heels of last weekend's Big Six Conference loss to Kilgore, Bob Baillio lowered the boom on five of his PJC Dragons Monday for "non-attendance of class." Baillio dismissed the five frara his Dragon squad. They were Quai- Hearing Ward Gridders End Of 1951 Season Ward School Conference gridders wind up their regular season schedule this week but they still have three makeup games to play. East Paris Dragons go against Rasa Fridny afternoon at 4 o'clock and can cinch the Ward Conference crown with a win. First Ward and Graham clash Wednesday afternoon at 4 o'clock.

J. G. Wooten and Fourth Ward mix it Thursday afternoon. All games are scheduled at Wise Field and all are free to the public. Three rained out games siiil must be made up by the ward gridders.

East Paris still has a game with First Ward Fourth Ward and Rosa Pearson must play and Graham goes against Wooten. They'll probably be completed early next week. SPORT SHOTS Midwest Fan Hits SW's Grid Power By HAROLD V. RATLIFF DALLAS, Nov. 13.

you want to get into an argument in a hurry just intimate that Southwest Conference football might be better than the Midwest variety. A fan wrote in last week for a comparison of the two in ten years. The records showed that the Southwest had won six -games and lost three in the interconference rivalry of the decade. That didn't satisfy one transplanted Westerner, B. writes from Amarillo: "After reading your article on Southwest Conference supre'macy over Midwest teams I can easily see that wee bit of prejudice that 1 might have for Midwestern football.

But as long as you're going to give the Texas sport fan the low-down on just how your brand of football has progressed in these ten years why not give all of the facts? "For instance: Why not tell the fans just where Purdue and Indiana finished in the Big Ten that particular year that a Southwest conference team defeated the same? I've been down here three months now and I'll tell you this much: Lubbock has a fine high school football team but there are some better ones in Michigan." The Southwest played representative teams of the Midwest. Ohio State and Notre Dame certainly are to be considered as top teams of the Midwest. Indiana and Purdue perhaps haven't been strong in the immediate past years but, after all, TCU, which beat Indiana twice, hasn't' been leader either. a Southwest We are sure the Southwestern teams would be glad to play Michigan or Illinois but never in history have been able to schedule those colleges. terback Garland Cain, Halfback Jimmy lltrth, Tackle Clifton Smith, Tackle Ray Griffin and Halfback Wiley Grinnel.

Four of the Hirth, Smith and regulars on Baillio's Dragon squad that had won four, lost four this season. Repeated "cuts" of their classes at Paris Junior College brought about Baillio's action. "Out here," Baillio explained, "We feel that there's a tittle more to football than just playing football. "When it all boils down, one of the big things a coach has to do is teach character. And a boy that won't attend class just isn't dependable, as a football player or a student." Although the five gridders were dismissed from the football squad, they were not dismissed from school.

"They're on their own now," added Baillio. "We're through staying after them all time to go to class." Baillio especially hated to see Smith go. The tall tackle from Pit.tsburg had been one of his top prospects. But Smith was guilty of non-attendance of classes and took the punishment as the other four. Minus the five dismissed grid- ders, the Dragons went about their workouts Monday afternoon.

Their next and final game will be with Murray's Aggies from Tishomingo, here Thursday night at Noyes Stadium. Buddy Jeffreys, fleet footed Bowie product, was operating at quarterback on Monday's session. Tulsa May Rip Tech Defenses LUBBOCK, Nov. 13. when it looks like Texas Tech is building a defense against Rushing, Tulsa University looms up all set to spoil the raiders' record.

In their past five games, the Raiders have permitted an average of only 127 yards along the.ground. The Golden Hurricane, second in the nation with an average of 337 rushing, Is likely to alter things Saturday at Tulsa. The Raiders can't count on the Hurricane merely running. Tulsa can loosen up the Tech defenses with a passing attack averaging better than 120 yards per contest. In fact, Buddy Brothers' eleven is second in total offense with an average of 449 yards a game.

Against Kilgore, he ran for Paris' only touchdown in a 34-7 loss. With Smith and Griffin gone, Baillio began grooming Loris Stell, Jimmy Garvett, George Hartman and Ronald Dunagan to fill the tackle spots. Charles Williams of Bogata was operating at right half. Another full-scale session was on tab this afternoon for the Dragons. They taper off Wednesday then finish the season against Murray here Thursday at Noyes Stadium.

Bob Baillio and Paris Junior Colege are no different.

So Baillio took action Monday. Five of his top including four regulars, were involved. All five got the axe. "We may lose another game Thursday night," Baillio shrugged. "But we had no other choice but to dismiss them from the squad." One of the five, Ray Griffin, remained in school.

Other four were absent from the campus Monday. They may drop out of school. All were eligible to return next season. Monday's action was regrettable, but necessary. Football notwithstanding, the primary purpose of Paris Junior College is to inject some education into the student who enrolls there.

REACTION TO OUR proposal that Paris Junior College withdraw from the Big Six Conference is favorable. All comment has been in favor of the move. Most agree that Paris doesn't benefit from its associations with Kilgore, Tyler and Cameron. We urge that PJC officials take steps to locate some invitations to enter the Pioneer Conference or some other junior college circuit. FLYING HIGH, WIDE Valley Nimrods Get Some Ducks Red River Valley ducks are flying high and wide this week and nimrods are cussing the weatherman. After a weekend of heavy shooting hunters report the waterfowl a bit gunshy. Clear skies enable them to cruise high and out of range, Fair-to-mlddling kills were reported over the weekend.

Some hunters got their limits. Some picked up pretty fair kEls. Others made a dry run. "Never saw so mar.y mallards in my life" figured Ernest Lenoir of Paris after a Sunday trip to Red River. He, Chester Jones and Jack Eubanks all got their limit.

They counted 12 mallards and three teal hunting on Big Red' north of Razor. Palmer Lake was quite a popu- ar place Sunday. Best kill reported from there amounted to 10 mal- lards and phi tails, mostly mallards. Randy Short and Fred Morphew Jr. of Paris and Tom Slielton of Texarkana got the 10.

There were other good some not so good. Right now nothing would please the duck hunters more than some cold damp weather with low-hanging clouds. That makes real waterfowl shooting. Hughes Springs Star Racks Up 185 Points HUGHES SPRINGS, Nov. 13.
