All orders' for Printers and Book er tnat object is sougttt by imposing the institution of Slavery on the new States of the West by the renewal of the Slave Trade, by the seizure of the domains of other nations, by aggressions on the rights of the Free States "by whatever means it seeks supremacy, as tending to revolutionize our political to rupture the bonds of Union.

It will oppose the legalization of Slavery by the Territorial Governments, or in the Organic Laws of the new States of the West, as tending to repress the industrial and intellectual ac of their people, as subversive of Democratic Equality, as a corruptor of the public morals, and as at war with the spirit and teachings of Christianity. It will advocate the principles of Temperance as essential to social happiness, and seek the overthrow of the Liquor Traffic in the only way it can be reached by stringent Prohibitory Laws. It will seek the establishment of a thorough system of Public Instruction as the first necessity of a State, and as the basis of individual enterprize, social progress, and National wealth. It will advocate the cause of a Free Christianity, a Free Bible, and the Freedom of Religious Faith as the surest barrier against the' encroachments of a Foreign Tyranny, a Priestly Despotism, and of a debasing Superstition. It will not be the organ of any party, or enter the domain of partizan politics but will seek to maintain its principles by an appeal to argument and fact in a spirit of candor and conciliation, but with the earnestness that grows out of a conviction of their truth and importance.
