Last season, the co-champion Cowboys had nine players selected. There were four runningbacks chosen on the second team because of a tie in voting. Also, just nine players comprised the second team defense, because the lack of interior linemen man, the young man who led the Spartans from the league's depths to runnerup this season, is the league's Coach of the Year, selected by his peers. Monterey's Phil Young, a 6-0, 244-pound tackle, got the nod as Lineman of the Year and Alisal's Ron Choate broke the Monterey-Seaside domination a bit by taking Back of the Year honors.

Barker was a cinch for an offensive end position after catching 45 passes for 957 yards. Fontes, Soquel 's do-everything fullback-linebacker, made the offensive team after carrying the Knights' rushing load this season. And squeezed is the word.

Soquel High's Dan Barker and Tony Fontes and Harbor Dan McGuire managed spots on the 22-player first team, a squad dominated by 17, yes 17, Mon terey Toreadores and Seaside Spartans, one-two finishers in the recently completed season. Seven county athletes were selected to the second team. Seaside High's Howard Hart- Will George Have To Do It Again? DETROIT (AP) There are no rocking chairs in Tiger Stadium, but maybe there should be for Thursday's game. Actually there are no more seats available for the Oakland Raiders-Detroit Lions Thanks giving Day clash. Chances are they were all bought up by members of the rocking chair set.

Well, mavbe not exactly the rocking chair set. But by football standards anyone older than 40 belongs in that category except George Blanda. The over 40s will be out en mass to watch their superhero Blanda. 43-vear-old Raiders sec ond-string quarterback who won Sunday's game 20-17 with a closing seconds field goal against San Djego. One Blanda fan, 61-year-old Steve Lubeck of Royal Oak, says "He's my great quarterback." "At that age when you can do what he's doing it's really something," Lubeck said Tuesday.

"He's already won five games for them, if Lamonica (Starting quarterback uaryie Lamonica) gets hurt and he takes over I think he 11 do great like he's done all year." But Lubeck has another motive for being a Blanda rooter "I'm of Slovak origin and so is he," he said. "I belong to a Slovak lodge and every week we eet a newspaper called Jea It is part in English and part in Slovak." "There was a story on him one week," he added. "I think he belongs to the same lodge but another chapter. Lubeck was lucky enough to get some tickets early this sea' son for the game. Even VIPs can get them now.

"Moose Krause, Notre Dame athletic director, called me and asked for four tickets," said Lions publicity director Lyall Smith. "I had to turn him down. There are no seats anywhere." That a pleasant problem the Lions have been having this season because they have been considered a National Football Con ference contender all season. Their 6-4 record puts them in second place in the Central Division behind Minnesota, 9-1. Oakland is atop the West Di vision of the American Conference with a 6-2-2 mark.

The Raiders must win Thursday to stretch their lead over Kansas City. But if they lose and the Chiefs win Sunday, Kansas City will tie for the lead with a 6-3-2 mark. A loss for the Lions would just about ruin their playoff bid. Under the system initiated for this season the three division champions plus the fourth team with the best record make the grade. Brodie Is Ahead In MVP Voting, Says Rams' Allen SAN FRANCISCO (AP) "If you had to pick a player of the year in the league right now, it would have to be John Brodie," says Coach George Al len of the Los Angeles Rams He far ahead of everyone else," Allen added Tuesday in a telephone interview.

Roman Gabriel, the Rams quarterback who was last year's Most Valuable Player in the National Football League, will match passes with Brodie Sunday in a battle of the lead ing teams in the Western Divi sion of the National Conference. The Rams. 6-3-1, would tie the 49ers, 7-2-1, for first place bv wlnninc. Coach Dick Nolan of the 49crs said Tuesday that his team is coming off its worst, game of the season, a 28-7 loss at Detroit Sunday. Looking back, he and flanker Steve Gregg also nabbed second team positions.

Santa Cruz lone all-leaguer linebacker Don Carniglia, a 5-10, 175 senior who was the Cards' fireplug player all year. Dave Niehol, an Aptos junior end, is the Mariners' lone representative on the all -league selections. He's 6-1, 165-pounds. This year's coaches' voting was differnet from any previous year, in that nominations and voting were achieved prior to Tuesday night's dinner meeting. Also, coaches were restricted as to the number of nominees, depending on where a team finished in final league standings.

So all the coaches had to do Tuesday night was talk, eat, and Georgia Tech vs. Georgia. In the Service showdown at Philadelphia, I look for Army to squeeze by the Middies, 16-13.
