D.Ezzell is the happiest man in town. The storks brought a fine boy baby this morning, Miss Foy Barnes has accepted a position in the millinery department of the Dunn Cash Racket Store. We are glad to welcome her to our town. Miss Florence Holder, the charming milliner in the Dunn Cash Racket Store, returned last week from the Northern markets, where she purchased an immense and well selected stock of millinery. Hatch Bros, have another excursion billed fiom Dunn to Wilmington and Beaches by way of Wilson, Friday, September 8th.

This will be the last excursion of the season. You will find locals and "ad" in this issue. The receipts have been proof read with the tax book and will be certified to by the Register of Deeds as being correct. By this method one man can collect all the tax in one township iu one day. if the people will all pay in one day with no possible chance of an error. A train load thirty-one cars of shoes passed here Mon day for southern points. The shoes were shipped by a well known Richmond house and each car bore a card stating its place of destination and the shipper. While the thermometer was playing near the 100 mark this evening and our cenizens were thinking about that warmer place preachers tell us about, a small cloud gathered overhead and soon gathered larger and poured down a heavy rain and hail with some wind. Re ports say a very heavy hail fell between here and Benson. No damage reported.

--It is reported here that one Willis Lee, a white man, was shot while resisting arrest last week near Sauls' Cross Roads in Wayne county by a deputy shirilf Report says that the deputy sheriff hacj a warrant charging Lee with assault upon a girl and when he wrent to Lee to arrest him he began to shoot at him, one ball taking effect in a finger. The deputy returned the fire and seriously, if not fatally, wounded Lee. It is also reported that this is--the same Willis Lee, who was about a year or more ago sentenced to be hanged for killing a negro in Edgecombe county, but got a new trial and was acouitted. -M. If he is the man he is well known in this section.

He preached' an -able sermon. His thought was deep and his delivery line. He left for Trinity College this week to completed his course. Messrs. Hood Grantham have just placed in position a now fountain.

There were more than forty thousand pounds sold in one day on this market last week. It "brought good prices and the farmers" went away well pleased. If you try this market one time you will try it again. This is one strong' point in its favor. Sales take place every day except Sunday.

There are 3, G40 miles of railroad in North Carolina, and it is taxed on an average, only $9,000 a mile. In Tennessee there are 3,000 miles, and it is taxed on an average, $18,000 a mile. Tennessee has 010 miles less okrailroad than North Carolina, yet collects taxes on 00q worth more of railroad property than does the Old North State. Installed Pastor. Monday evening at the Presbyterian church here Rev. R. W. Hines was regularly installed pastor of the congregation by the committee appointed by Presbytery of Fayette-ville.

Rev. H. Tucker Graham, of Fayetteville, preached the installation sermon, which was ably and appropriately delivered. He also delivered the charge to the congregation, in the absence of Rev. J.

S. Black who could not be present on account of sickness. Rev. J. L.

Yandel, of Fayetteville, delivered the pastoral charge in a pleasant and impressive address. The congregation and citizens of Dunn welcome Mr. Hines as pastor of the church here and pray that his pastorate may be pleasant and much good for the cause of the Master accomplished.
