Elizabeth J. Freeman, 539 East Third street, Berwick, former resident of this city, died Wtdiies-day in Berwick Hospital where she had been a patient four weeks. The deceased was a member of the First Methodist Church, Ber wick. She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Freeman, in 1957.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Claude Chamberlain, Pittsburgh; two grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. from the Kelchner Funeral Home, Berwick. Interment will be in the Vine Street Cemetery, this city.

MRS. MARY E. EISENHOWER Mrs. Mary E. Eisenhower, Ring-town, died Tuesday at the Phoebe Home, Allentown.

She was a daughter of the late John and Mary Lees Clough. The funeral was held yesterday from the Waters Funeral Home, Shenandoah. Rev. Joseph R. Stoudt, pastor of the United Church of Christ, Shenandoah, conducted the services.

Born in Freeland, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Anna Marie Bonomo and had been a member of St. Ann's R. C. Church, Freeland.

The was a graduate of the Kings County School of Nursing, Brooklyn, N. and held a B.S. Degree from New York University. She served for a number of years as an instructor of nurses at the Kings County Nursing School. Prior to this she was a state public health and visiting nurse in Hazleton for a period of nine years.

She was an honorary life member of both the Greater Hazleton Business and Professional Women's Club and the Freeland Catholic Women's Club. The deceased and a sister, Anna, who died in November, 1961, were well Vnown in years past for performances as vocalists at numerous Hazleton area civic functions. Surviving are two sisters, Caroline, a guest at Spaar's Convalescent Home, and Mrs. Walter (Adeline) von Bergmann, Los. Angeles, California and a number of nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 9 a. m. Monday from the Petrilli Funeral Home, Freeland. A requiem high mass will be celebrated at 9:30 in St. Ann's Church, Freeland.

Interment will be in St. Anthony's parish cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 p. m. Saturday until time of the funeral.

City Drummer Club Partner Rango Matthews, 46 East Oak street, recently became co-proprietor of theVoo Doo Lounge, Columbus, Ohio, with organist Hal Case. Matthews, a drummer, appeared in local night clubs many times. He teamed up with Case in Marietta, Ohio, and from there they went to Cocoa Beach, Florida.

Following the Florida engagement, they purchased Voo Doo Lounge. Matthews, who played with the Hal Mclntyre band and the Mugg-sy Spanier combo, was rated "a great drummer" in a Columbus newspaper night club column. Matthews' son, Bill, who appeared in local Community Players and Hazleton Art League productions, is currently with the Pittsburgh Civic Theatre. Mrs. Matthews, a former employe of Victoria Candy, and two daughters of the couple, Cheryl and Charlene, will move to Columbus in the near future.

Mrs. Matthews recently returned here after a three-week stay in Columbus. Hospital Cancels Visit Hours This Afternoon In commemoration of Christ's three-hour agony on the cross, no visiting of patients will be allowed this afternoon at St. Joseph Hospital. Joseph Hospital where she had been a patient the past seven weeks. She was born in Ebervale, a daughter of the late Nicholas and Anna Kuritz Popovnak and had resided in Drums the past 22 years. She was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd, Drums, the church choir, Altar and Rosary So ciety, and the Butler Township Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. Surviving are her husband, sex ton of the Good Shepherd Church and superintendent of Calvary Cemetery, Drums, and two chil dren: Bonita, R. and Anthony, at home.

Also surviving are a brother, Michael Popovnak, Ali- quippa, and two step-brothers and a step-sister: John Petnchko, with the Army stationed in Arizona; Nicholas Petrichko, Oakdale; and Margaret Petrichko, Clifton, N. He was formerly employed as an electrician by Metropolitan Edison Eastoa. Surviving are his wife, the former Signe Elizabeth Johnson, two sons, Daniel E. and Martin at home, and one grandson. The funeral will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no viewing.

788-1 147 Since the inception of the pro gram by the Holy Name Men in 1961, under the direction of past president, Henry E. Recla, these major improvements have been accomplished: removal of trees and underbrush; grading of the south end of the Cemetery providing more space for burial plots; erection of a concrete block storehouse for maintenance equipment; tarvia paving of existing dirt walks; installation of copper piping and three water outlets, and the supplying of lot owners with top soil to raise the ground surface to a uniform level. For 1963, the officers approved the facing, pointing and water-" proofing of the cemetery chapel; the removal cf cement curbing around individual plots and the furnishing of additional top soil without charge to plot owners. Future improvements being planned will include the removal of the stone wall at the south side of the cemetery and the installation cf an electric pump to increase the present inadequate water pressure. Secretary Robert G.

DeFant of the cemetery committee reported that maintenance assessment notices are being prepared and will be mailed to lot owners this month. The assessment fees in effect for 1962 will remain unchanged. Neil Cortese, 590 Peace street, was reappointed cemetery caretaker for the 1963 season from May 1 to October 31. Born in Sandy Run, August 16, 1897, he was a son of the late Alonzo A. and Cora Thomas Solt. As early as 1912 he became interested in wireless telegraphy and was among the early amateurs to build and operate his own radio station. Enlisting in the Navy at 18, he was assigned to the electrical school at Brooklyn Navy Yard. In 1916, he was assigned to the German radio station at Sayville, L.

where the Navy took over its operation from the Telefunken Co. as a neutrality preservation procedure He was honorably discharged as a chief radio electrician in 1923 and enlisted in the Coast Guard two years later after two years in private industry. He was the author of a number of published articles and a paper delivered before the Institute of Radio Engineers in New York and Washington in 1931 and 1932 re ceived worldwide attention. In 1937 he was assigned to the Fort Trumball Training Station in New London, and later handled the removal of the institute from there to the Coast Guard Training Station at Avery Point, Groton, Conn. Surviving are his wife, the for mer Margaret Allen, a son, Clyde W.

He had just left the Blose's cabin in Rockport when he was stricken. Deputy Coroner Philip Jeffries attributed death to a coronary occlusion. Born in Weatherly, he was the son of the late Artimus and Alice (Lentz) Blose. His wife, the former Miriam G. Zierdt, preceded him in death.

He resided in the North Side area the greater part of his life. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, No. 717, Freeland. Prior to his retirement last year, he was a partner in the Sandy Run Miners and Producers, Inc. At his retirement, he was still active as a weighmaster and clerk.

Surviving are two sons, Harold of Phoenixville, and William of Athens, a daughter, Mrs. Theodore (Jean) Faux, of Freeland; and six grandchildren. He was the last member of his immediate family. Funeral will be held 2 p.m. Monday from the Cotterall Funeral Home, 706 Birkbeck street.

Free- land. Rev. George W.M. Kohler, pastor of St. John's Reformed United Church of Christ, will officiate.

Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Weatherly. was a son of Mrs. Mary Van Buskirk' Klinger, Reading, and the late Clyde Klinger. He resided in Freeland before locating in Hazleton 19 years ago. He was last employed as the steward at the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge, West Broad street. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge.

Surviving are his wife, the former Ethel Reese, and these children, Mrs. Herbert (Geraldine) Crouse, Bristol; Frederick, Middlesex, N. Mrs. Harry (Lois) Becker, Garfield, N. Mrs.

Russell (Roberta) Minnick, Abingfon; Kenneth, Garfield, N. Gail Ann, at home. Also surviving are three grandchildren, a brother, Eugene, Reading; and a sister. Mrs. Gladvs Eddinger, Lansdale.

The funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p. m. from the Bachman Funeral Home. Rev. Allen H.

Cannon, of 127 South Wyoming street, died at the Hazleton State General Hospital at 10:45 p. m. Thursday following a brief illness. She was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs.

John C. (Grace Boyle) Cannon and was a resident of Hazleton all of her life. Miss Cannon was a member of St. Gabriel's Church, the Altar and Rosary Society and the Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality of that parish. Surviving are a sister, Mrs.

Gertrude McDevitt, of Chester; a nephew, J. Paul Cannon, this city, and several other nephews and nieces. The funeral will be held Monday at 10 a. m. from the Boyle Funeral Home, South Wyoming street, with a solemn high mass of requiem in St.
