Gary Thomasson opened the bottom of the seventh with a double and Chris Speir singled, chasing reliever Wayne Granger, 2-3. With one out, Arnold then delivered his game-winning fly. A leadoff triple by pinch-hitter Jim Dwyer and run-scoring singles by Lou Brock and Tim McCarver around Ted Sizemore's sacrifice bunt pulled the Cardinals into a 4-4 tie off Tom Bradley, 8-7, in the top of the seventh.

It was the fifth shutout of the season, most in the National League, for Billingham, 12-5. The defending champion Reds, who started the day in third place six games behind Los Angeles in the West Division, have won three in a row and eight of their last nine. Pete Rose walked to start the third inning rally against Wayne Twitchell, 6-3, and Joe Morgan singled. Dan Driessen grounded to second shortstop Larry Bowa dropped Denny Doyle's throw to load the bases for Bench, who singled to left for two runs.

Roger Metzger opened the Houston ninth with a bunt single, advanced to third on Cedeno's single and raced home on Bob Watson's After Doug Rader walked to fill the bases. Tommy Helms singled home Cedeno and Watson for the winning and insurance runs. Foil was hurt in the fourth inning when he collided with Watson while attempting a tag play. He left the field on a stretcher and was taken to a hospital for X-rays which disclosed the fracture. The Astros scored three runs in the sixth on Cesar Cedeno' two-run homer, his 15th and second of the game, and Skip Jutze's sacrifice fly.

Three cyclists die in Mona crash MONZA, Italy (AP) -Three Italian motorcyclists were killod during a 500 CC class race at the Monza track yesterday. Victims of the giant spill on the big curve of the Monza Aufodromo were a Galtrucco, Kmzo Colonibini and Carlo Chionio.

The accident occurred at Ihe same spot where Finnish motorcycle ace Jarno Saari-nen and Italy's Renzo Tasolini were killed during an internal ional race May 20. Three other riders involved In yesterday's mishap were injured and organizers called off the remaining races scheduled for the track. After the deaths of Saarinen and Pasolini, judges began an investigation aimed to determine whether the Monza track was safe for motorcycle races. Tenace's homer, his 14th of the baseball season, came off Bob Reynolds, the fourth Baltimore pitcher. The Orioles took a 4-2 lead into the ninth but Bert Campaneris started a three-run Oakland rally with his fourth hit of the game, a one-out single off Eddie Watt.

With two out, Sal Bando doubled and Grant Jackson replaced Watt. Reggie Jackson smashed a hit off Grant Jackson's pitching hand for one run and then stole second before Deron Johnson greeted Reynolds with a two-run single off the glove of first baseman Bong Powell. The Orioles tied the score in tine bottom of the ninth on two-out singles by Brooks Robinson, Powell and pinch hitter Al Bumbry. The first two hits came off Paul Lindblad, Rumbry's off Rollie Fingers. Tenace's home run provided Fingers, Oakland's 1372 World Series hero, with his first 1973 victory against five defeats.

The Orioles jumped on Pave Hamilton for a 4-0 lead in the first inning on Earl Williams' sacrifice fly and Don Baylor's homer.
