EXCHANGE SECURITY CORPORATION By: J. IVAN HOLM, Vice President, Trustee Sept. 20, 27; Oct. 4 (11705) CERTIFICATE County Clerk's Index No. 1908 of his head In 1967, in the middle of his sophomore year, he decided to come to Israel, caught up in the tide of enthusiasm which enraptured many young Jews during and immediately after the Arab-Israeli war. Like many other volunteers he was sent to a kibbutz where he spent time washing dishes and planting beans. He left the kibbutz to take lessons in Hebrew at the small desert development town of Arad, near the Dead Sea. After three months he enrolled in the Yeshiva of the Dispersion. He thought it could help his search. "Most people need some kind of belief," he said. "This must coincide with whatever you are going to perform in life, jibe with what you want to do." Rabbi Mordechai Goldstein, head of the Yeshiva, says proudly he converted several New York Negroes to Judaism before coming to Israel two years ago. "If there are enough Negro Jews, Negroes will just have to bear less animosity toward Jews," he says. Although Gregory embarked on a course which would eventually qualify him as a rabbi, Rabbi Goldstein says he is "a little disappointed" in the youth's quest for faith. " Like other students, Gregory took a written pledge not to desecrate the Sabbath, not to frequent "low places" and not to indulge in "pleasures of the flesh." The young man strayed, the rabbi said. Rabbi Goldstein arranged for him and three other students to work out with a lo cal basketball team "to get rid of some of his excess energy." Gregory s search, indeed, ap pears now to be leading him to other fields. He wants to study at Tel Aviv University and then the University of Munich in Germany. But he will be reluctant to leave Israel. "This is a place where I feel I can exist as an individual, without being stigmatized as a member of a minority group," he says. The Moscow subways, of course, pride of the Russians, and showcase of government policy. By Michael Johnson Moscow (TP). Moscow's gleaming subway is the best bargain in town. For five kopecks, about a nickel, the Russian worker gets a fast, clean ride to work with an art show and a review of Soviet history thrown in. Every 90 seconds a train whizzes into a station decorated with fancy chandeliers, murals depicting glories of the recent past, and in some places pol ished tile floors. Moscow Communist party official he harangued workers to forge ahead faster and ignore the dangers of the hazardous project. To inspire them, Khrushchev spent many hours in the muddy, half-flooded tunnels. Soviet publications from those days disclose that Muscovites followed the subway construction with special interest because of the ancient legend that an underground city existed beneath Moscow. In the atmosphere of mysticism and superstition in 18th and 19th-century Moscow, rumors spread that a kingdom of dwarfs was thriving under the city.
