So eggs now cost 21 cents per dozen more than they did at this time last year. So the jelly you put up so lovingly last summer has oozed through the paraffin seals in spite of all your scientific attempts to prevent it There are other courageous women facing knotty dilfiulties too. Glancing through current issues of women's magazines reveals numerous noble efforts to cope. In one, the story is told of a woman who is so wily and so clever she is able to feed her family of seven on $28 a week. It doesn't, however, say how many weeks she did this my guess would he two at the most, three.) Pictured on expensive dishes, set on tastefully laid tables, and illuminated by thousands and thousands of dollars worth of professional lighting, her budget meals look moist and yummyas indeed, what food would not? But.

at $28 a week, this woman needs all the props she can get. She should even have a medal. There's another article on crying. A careful analysis is made of tears they are categorized, pigeonholed and pinpointed in careful detail. In summary, it is concluded that tears are healthful-hut didn't we all know that, anyway? There's plenty to cry about.

For instance, what ot the poor woman who ignores the stern warning in a women's magazine and goes out and recklessly buys talse eyelashes which are TOO HEAVY FOR HER EYELIDS? Or doesn't heed another warning that she be careful lest her makeup sinks into the creases on her face. Another full page shows how one brave woman is coping with face sag. She pulls her face up with the use of special cords and tapes, and somehow hides it all under her hairdo. She wouldn't dare engage in a little creative crying if the tapes came loose "There's GOT to be more than THIS' is still the theme of the jaded housewife who tells all in the women's magazines. Funny, though the sad stories of the women who found "There IS more than Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor and Jackie Kennedy continue to entertain brave readers who are trying to cope.

The real end to my women's magazine skimming and the decision to face life without their doubtful comfort came with the perusal of a new women's lib magazine. It contained an attack on that holy (to me I institution, the atternoon nap It implied that women with important things to do don't need to take naps-that those who take them are suffering from boredom Maybe they don't know about the satisfying physical fatigue which comes from taking care of little children, washing, ironing and cooking and cleaning, and the blissful reward of an hour's nap.
