You have evaded answering the questions asked in my previous letter.

You gloat about your, patriotism and your patriotic parents, saying I am unable to distinguish the difference between patriotism and critic! inn. I am able to distinguish that you are full of criticism ratben than Nobody has ever accused you of being patriotic, have they At the very outset of the war, you were outspoken in your love for the cause of Germany In her attempt to destroy civilization and Christianity. You and your kind who so love Germany, fhoold be loaded on transports ana snt to sea, te gH to Germany if possible and fight where your sympathies are, One more awnllon haJ you ever ben at a patriotic mvUng? Don't you alrs snnk around and all rMnotie rnoptinirsT army and navy by securing some sition from which they are not likely to But I cannot classify under any of the above heads the olhce holder who siaieineius inai cause young mill IU I XIUIU CI 111 UI IKJ IB' fllse to answcr the summons under the Selective Draft Act. He is traitor of the deepest strain. The United States Senate, almost 50 per cent Re publican, has just passed the new Se- lcctive Draft Act by a unanimous vote, (Mississippi has just defeated Vardi- man and South Carolina has just bur- ana publicly accused ot doing, viz 'speaking against the plans of the government in time of war and of say ing things which cause other men to become deserters.

Two things ought to lie done in your county iuiuciai no iiuies io no wnat tne Huns would have him do. 01 course he is serving the Kaiser when he speaks against our national government and when his influence causes young men to desert. He is also leading unsuspecting young men to commit what we regard as the blackest crime a man can commit against his government. Second. That man ought to make his accuser prove his charges or else lie ought to resign his ollice.

If he is not guilty of the accusations he has right to be vindicated; if he is guilty the people have a right to know. If he is guilty the voters of his county, regardless of party, will see that relieved of his olhce. If it were not for meddlinir in the affairs of the national irovernment would further suggest that the secret service men ought to spend some time in your county. But that is none of my attairs. But there is another thing which the people might do.

If that public official keeps on speaking against the government and it should turn out that the secret service men regard him as too insignificant to take up their time the people might purchase a Hun uniform and helmet, and present them to the aforesaid public officer. Very truly yours, MIKE DOOGANSHIELD. REPUBLICAN EFFICIENCY IN WESTERN RANDOLPH Mr. Editor: Will you please allow me space in uur vaiuauie paper ior just a few lines in regard to the good old Republican party. When the Democrats were in power in Randolph county you could not hear anything but HIGH TAXES, the court house and jail, and that the Democrats were robbinr the county.

The Republicans promised to reauce me taxes and sure enough they did reduce mine, but they happened reauce ur instead of down. My taxes were about $30 when the Demo crats were in power, since the sweet republicans have taken charge it is right at $40. Now the truth of it is hav left the tares Just like the I wmruiMra KnrJ OaL 1L. Democrats had it 86 V4 cents on the $100 valuation. What I want to know is, where is the reduction.

It is just like I expected. Thev have alwavi. been making promises and never ful- niiing them. Now you dont hear a word out of the Radicals abaut the county affairs. But what you hear now is their vilification of the Presi dent of the United States.

They can't say enough against Wood row Wilson 1 would like to know what their party has been doing the past 20 years they were in power to make this country efficient in its fighting now tney say we are sending Republican boys to the war and keeping the Democrats at home. That is a Republican lie, for I have people in this war and they are Democrats. I am not for war if it can be but i am a naturai-boni American. Just a few more words in regard to the eoonty affair: What have they done with the chain-rang What have they done with the 27 bead of notes the Democrats hadt They said we did not need the mules, but if they will come op this way I think they will say we need twice Z7 mule, -The Republicans started to build a road from Farmer te the Davidson county line, and lo and behold is it done On the road to Asheboro la a pine stab la a mod hole and other things equally as bad, as signals, like it was whea we hauled spokes to Thomesville In days rone by. and spokes were sUced In places where you were liable to mireJ op tn tne mud Hiignal or danger.

From a taxpayer who paid $10 more nndef Hz-publican rule than tiiwpr IfcrnorrnUe rule, so Jwrt go ahead with your old pine 1nb for yoo are going to get slabbed this fall. In his "piece" he traced riny And evaded the very thing, That caused him great pains And not a vote he He stumped the county o'er Promised voters by the score, That when his term was out The office would go up the spout. He "langs on like a leach, And thinks the office a peach Of such delicious flavor, That he again asks our favor. When people believe his schemes, Tadpoles will run Submarines; And Ants will pull the train From Asheboro ani back again. Before he geV our voteF, Cows will look like goat Chickens will grow like mules, and people will be durn fools. C.
