C2 YORK SUNDAY NEWS SEPTEMBER 9 1990 DEATHS Charles Matulin Red Lion Charles Carl Matulin of Red Lion died unexpectedly at 1:30 am yesterday at York Hospital following a lengthy illness He was 65 He retired in 1987 as a carpenter for the Local No 191 York after 17 years of service Mr Matulin served as a sert geant first class in the US Army and was a member of Collinsville Fish and Game Association He was born in Akron Ohio and was the son of the late Steven and Mary Conroy Matulin He leaves his wife Pauline Lowe Matulin three sons Steven Matulin Harrisburg Mark Matulin Reading and Timothy Matulin Conestoga three daughf ters Teresa Frey Spry DeAn-na Matulin Red Lion and Rebecca Matulin Windsor four-grandchildren and three brothers Steven Matulin California Thomas Matulin Akron Ohio and Michael Matulin Akron Ohio The viewing is scheduled for 7 to 9 pm tomorrow at Olewiler and Heffner Funeral Home Inc 145-147 Broadway Red Lion The service is to begin at 10 am Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev Ronald Schmuck of Red Lion Bible Church' officiating Cremation will follow the service Please see Page C3 Mervin Fishel York Mervin Fishel of York died at 10:25 pm Friday at York Hospital following a lengthy illness He was 68 Mr Fishel was a retired employee of the former Allis Chalmers He was an Army veteran of World War II where he served in the European theater with the 878th Airborne Engineers He was a graduate of William Penn Senior High School and a lifelong member of Fourth United Methodist Church where he was also a member of the Bible class and former secretary of the Sunday school Mr Fishel was a member of the Gunning Club the Pleasureville American Legion Post 799 the Mount Zion Lodge 74 of the IOOF the Springetts Fire Company the American Association of Retired Persons and Lodge 1400 of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers He was born in York son of the late Adam and Mamie Campbell Fishel He is survived by a sister Irene Walker York and two nephews Viewing is scheduled for 7 to 9 pm tomorrow at the Etzweiler Funeral Home 1111 Market St The service is scheduled to begin at 10 am Tuesday at the funeral home with his pastor the Rev Lewis A Crouse and the Rev Melvin Geiman Jr associate pastor of the Otterbein United Methodist Church Weigelstown officiating Burial is to be in Mount Rose Cemetery where graveside military rites will be conducted by the York County Veterans Honor Guard Memorial contributions may be made to Fourth United Methodist Church 1067 Market St Helen Vandersloot Felton RD 2 Helen Lookingbill Vandersloot of Felton RD 2 died at 10:50 am yesterday at Memorial Hospital after a brief illness She was 69 She was employed for many years as a waitress at the Ramona Restaurant York and at the Donut Delite and Restaurant and several other York area restaurants She was also employed by the York Dispatch Publishing Co as an advertising representative for the Free Press in Shrewsbury until her retirement in 1987 She was a member of VFW Post 446 in Red Lion and the New Bridgeville Memorial Fire Company She was an avid bingo player Mrs Vandersloot was born in Baltimore daughter of the late Ralph Sr and Madeline Haugh Lookingbill She was preceded in death by her husband John Vandersloot Sr and her brother Ralph Lookingbill Jr She leaves a daughter Susan Wynegar of York three sons Alan Vandersloot and Daryl Vandersloot both of York and John Vandersloot Jr Felton eight grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren The viewing is scheduled for 1 to 2 pm Wednesday at the in York New Salem son of Florence A Grove Brodbeck of York and the late Charles Brodbeck Sr He was the husband of the late Freda Klinedinst Brodbeck In addition to his mother he leaves a son William and York County Agricultural Society He was born in Elferfhausen Germany and was the son of the late Andreas and Eva Muller Schmidt He was the husband of the late Elizabeth Fleckenstine Schmdit He after 30 years of service and was a past regional vice president of the Pennsyvlania State Machinist Council Mrs Nicholas was born in Harrisburg daughter of the late George and Frances Wardecker Pratt She leaves her husband Robert Nicholas a son John Smith Newville and two daughters Joyce Welsh Baltimore and Suzanne Murray Hummelstown seven grandchildren three brothers Frank Pratt and Robert Pratt Church New Freedom officiating Eugene Marks Charlotte NC Eugene Marks of Charlotte NC formerly of York died Thursday at his home following a lengthy illness He was 76 Mr Marks lived in York from 1941 until June 1986 He had retired in December 1970 after 33 years of service as an officer in the Pennsylvania State Police He began service as a trooper at Harrisburg in 1937 later transferring to Carlisle and then to York His promotion to 1st sergeant of Troop came in 1961 and his promotion to lieutenant in September 1969 when he became head of the York barracks During the period of his employment he served as official in charge of staff administration services in Harrisburg and supervisor of garage inspections in York County He was born in Danville Montour County son of the late Samuel and Mary McCloud Marks He leaves his wife Genevieve Maneval Marks one son Michael Marks Topsfield Mass two daughters Ann Rowe Wood-stock Ga and Janey Thompson Charlotte NC and one brother
