the 25-lap sprint car feature at Susquehanna Speedway last 'night Smith started 12th and inherited the lead when Jimmy Nace ran out of fuel on the 23rd lap Smith who became the fifth winner in five races this year at Susquehanna edged Chuck Reinert by 78 of a second for the win Fred Rahmer of Ardsley finished third followed by Kenny Adams of West Grove and Bobby Fletcher of Brookville Md- Heats went to Nace Todd Shaffer of Millerstown and Kenny Jacobs of Holmesville Ohio Lenny Krautheim won the consy Scott Sipe of Lewisbury won the 12-lap thunder car feature over Steve Reinoehl of York Completing the top five were Rick Reinoehl of Strinestown Butch Richcreek of Newberry-town and Larry Baer o'f Strinestown Features for the limited late models and semi-lates were rained out DIRT wrrnwnii Silver Spring Silver Spring was the only track to complete their racing program on Saturday evening Defending champion Larry Jackson of Newville got his first win of the season Jackson started 10th and took the lead on the ninth lap to win the Will Kreitzer Memorial Race for the super sportsman cars Bob Fannasy came from the 22nd starting spot to nail down second followed by Brad Beecher Enola point leader Rich Eichelberger York Springs and Bill Albright Dover Heats went to Jackson Albright Leroy Martin and Jeremy Trout Fannasy took the B-Main Tony Greener took the limited late model feature over Charlie Kope Harrisburg Rounding out the top five were Ed Jones Shermansdale Carl Hughes Newberrytown and Russell Shutt Enola Postponements Racing washed out complete racing card at Hagerstown On Saturday the sprint and Steve Smith Sr won at Susquehanna Speedway last night EASTERN LEAGUE some tough spots calling for some off-speed i Lind had the shutout going through four innings He walked Casey Webster to open the fifth and gave up a single to Tom Magrann Everado Magallanes flied out to left where Ed Yaco-pino made a running catch Yacopino threw a strike to second baseman Kevin Burdick who relayed to first and caught Magrann steaming back toward the bag Jose Leiva singled in Webster to tie the game and Lind walked the bases full before striking out Troy Neel But Lind who finished with five walks and five strikeouts never buckled under the pressure and continued to chase the batters the fourth inning I was feeling said Lind who threw 114 total pitches Only cleanup batter Orlando Merced failed to get a hit although he did pick up an RBI Designated hitter Julio Perez went three-for-four The Senators touched Gilles for three straight singles in the second inning Wes Chamberlain 2-for-4 led off the rally scoring on Tommy base hit Rossy opened the fifth with a home run McKinley singled advanced on base hits from Julio Peguero and Burdick and scored on groundout Yacopino led off the eighth inning with a base hit stole second and was singled home by Perez By RICK LEE Staff writer HARRISBURG pitchers struggled a bit in 4-1 victory over Canton-Akron but the batters picked up where they left off Saturday evening The Senators scattered 11 hits against starter Mark Gilles which included Rico first homer of the season were bound to improve in that getting him through rain washed out all but one feature event Only the KARS limited sprints were able to race and Bob Beidelman raced to his third win of the season in the 15-lap event Rounding out the top five were Johnny Martin Chambersburg Tim Dietz Hanover Butch Shoff Dover and Bobby Essick Dillsburg late model features were washed out at Lincoln Bernie Beard Hanover won the semi-late title Sports main events STAFF REPORT Central won its 17th PIAA District III Volleyball Championship Saturday beating West York 15-2 15-8 in the finals Both teams advance to states Saturday at Shippensburg University The Panthers dominated Northeastern 15-0 15-6 in the district semifinals West York which finished the YCIAA season at 7-5 was a surprise entry in the district finals Central Dauphin had proved too much for both Northeastern and Dallastown in pool play But the Bulldogs' brought emotion to the floor Saturday outlasting Central Dauphin 14-16 15-10 15-5 in the semis A realigned Panther offense opening round The third-seeded Wildcats beat York Matt Kehler and Wyeth Barley 6-1 6-0 in round one while Ginder and Stell struggled past team 7-6 6-3 In head-to-head play the Dallastown duo outlasted the Red Lion doubles team 6-2 2-6 6-4 in the second round but fell to the Hempfield entry in the third round York Judd Lando and Lee Dietz lost to' top-seeded Carlisle 4-6
